Bratislava: 6-Hour Carpathian Wine Tour and Tasting

1. Bratislava: 6-Hour Carpathian Wine Tour and Tasting

Be picked up from the lobby of your hotel and embark on the journey towards the Small Carpathian Wine Region. This area is located on the south-eastern slopes of the Small Carpathians and is one of the eight winegrowing regions of Slovakia. Arrive at the Red Stone Castle, one of the most romantic castles of Slovakia, with vast cellars which were once used as warehouses for copper. To enter, you can pay an additional fee. Continue towards the historical town of Modra. Modra is famous for being the birthplace of Slovakian national hero Ludovit Stur, who fought for the autonomy of Slovakia in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Stur also had a significant influence on the revival of the Slovak language and introduced the Slovak language standard. Learn more about his importance in Slovak history as you wander around the medieval town center. Next, visit Pezinok, the capital city of Slovak wine production. Enjoy a walking tour in the historical city center of Pezinok with the option of entering the Majolica Pottery Factory. Continue towards the small town of Svaty Jur to discover its charming streets. Finally, visit a local vineyard and see the traditional production of local wine, free from colorants or additives, by local farmers. Sample this local fine wine with a small snack before returning to Bratislava at approximately 6:00 PM.

Very relaxed, very authentic and very personal. Wine tasting at this local family business was the best part of our trip to Slovakia. It is clear how much passion they have for their work and they are excellent at what they do. We took the train to Pezinok from Bratislava (~€2pp return) then the bus onward to Modra (~€2pp return). At the tasting we learned all about the history of Wine in the region and all about the process of wine making, and saw round the new venue they are currently renovating in Modra. We tasted around 9 samples to compare flavours and had bread, cheese and traditional Slovak cold pork. Fedors son who lead the tasting was a lovely charismatic person who knew his craft well. We really enjoyed sipping wine and chatting to him for a couple of hours in sunny Modra. I would 100% recommend this experience, if you are in Slovakia you must come and visit!

This was a wonderful day at the Malik winery, a family owned winery in Modra. We were welcomed by one of the Malik brothers who offered a really casual and relaxed style to how they make their wines. They were generous with the wine tastings and gave us an insight into their family busiess. We also got to meet the head of the family who was so welcoming with us, and offered us a wholesome selection of meats and cheeses and just let us sip away exploring all their delicious wines, with small stories behind each one! What a perfect day, highly recommend. Also Modra has some lovely cafes near the winery that are worth exploring beforehand! Note - the tour doesn't include a visit to the actual vineyards.

Great wine, great fun and really great value. A trip not to be missed. What a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to have our wine tasting hosted by Mr Malik sr himself. Such an interesting host and story of the vineyard. The wines were all beautiful and thoroughly explained and accompanied by a lovely selection of regional nibbles. The only downside is we don’t have enough baggage allowance to take more bottles home with us to the UK.

This was such a lovely experience! I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to learn about/taste some really high quality wines. We didn't get any bread or snacks but it was still a great experience. We took 2 buses from the airport to get out to Modra but it was absolutely worth it!

Very interesting tour of the castle, ceramic shop and wine tasting. Unfortunately, the wine museum was closed on Monday
