COVID-19 Update

Due to health and safety regulations, this itinerary may change. See Know before you go for the latest updates.

The Museo Picasso Málaga was created in response to the artist's desire for his work to be exhibited in the city of his birth in 1881. Its realization is thanks to the combined efforts of the artist´s daughter-in-law and grandson, whose donations provide the body of the art collection, and Junta de Andalucía, who arranged an ambitious project devoted to the artist. Located in the Palacio de Buenavista, declared a National Monument in 1939, the Museo Picasso Málaga opened in the heart of Málaga in 2003. The building boasts a harmonic mix of Renaissance and Mudéjar elements and serene contemporary lines. Phoenician, Roman, and Arabic ruins can be found on the underground floor. This ticket provides access to the permanent collection or the temporary exhibition. The permanent collection contains examples of Picasso's revolutionary innovations. See paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics, and graphic work, from his first academic studies to his personal Neoclassical perspective, from the overlapping forms of Cubism to his experiments in ceramics, and from his interpretation of the Old Masters to his last paintings of the 1970s. Purchase a combined ticket and you will also get access to the museum’s temporary exhibitions. The temporary exhibitions change on a regular basis.  Break for a snack in the garden café of the Palacio de Buenavista, a perfect place to end your visit with an appetizer, lunch, or a drink in one of the nicest spots in Málaga. The upcoming temporary exhibitions are : • Miquel Barceló. Metamorphosis: January-September 2021

Central to the historic part of the town the Picasso museum was an enjoyable way to pass a couple of hours. Laid out chronologically, you could trace the artist's development to his latter years - the audio guide was more than helpful. The on-site cafe was cheap and cheerful with seating indoors and in a patio area. Well worth a visit.

It was only worth it because Picasso lived in Malaga. Very quick to see everything. You can purchase tickets the day off and if you’ve purchased them online you can skip the line and go directly inside. It does not indicate this anywhere so people with ticket wait the same line...

Beat the queues and got admission at a reduced rate.

The app did not give me tickets for my children. However the attendant shoved me to the front of the queue where the ticket office issued courtesy tickets for children. The museum itself showed Picasso’s early work which was interesting. Do not expect to see his most famous paintings here.
