Following the Footsteps of César Manrique: Four Art Centers

2. Following the Footsteps of César Manrique: Four Art Centers

César, a multidisciplinary artist, painter, sculptor, conservator of monuments and tourist resorts, designer of landscapes and gardens, and recognized ecologist, created from natural volcanic accidents a tendency that impacted the world. He managed to unite Art, Urbanism and Tourism in a single concept, under a philosophy and model of urban intervention based on sustainability and respect for the natural values of the territory, into what is now a world reference. The Island would be different without the Monument to the Peasant, Los Jameos del Agua, Mirador del Río, Cactus Garden or the Cave of the Greens. It would certainly be less attractive and with much less personality. Not visiting these Centers and works of art, being able to interpret them, is like not even having travelled here. This tour offers you the opportunity to discover the North of Lanzarote having a panoramic of Haría, Riscos de Famara and Volcán de la Corona. You will have the privilege to visit the art centers of Cesar Manrique such as Monument to the Peasant, Cactus Garden, Mirador del Río and Fundación César Manrique. Choose if you wish to visit Jameos del Agua or Cueva de los Verdes, two marvelous art centers which are a must in your visit to Lanzarote.

What people are saying about Mirador del Río

Having been to Lanzarote almost every year for the last 17yrs, we realised that there were still some places that we haven't visited! So we decided to take this group tour which, whilst taking us to a couple of these places, also gave us a chauffer and guide (saving on the hire car cost and hassle of driving!). And we were not disappointed. The early entry to the Cuevos de la Verdes meant that we had a 'private tour' and Andrea's knowledge (& Miguel's driving!) made for a very enjoyable morning visiting here, Jameos del Agua, the view from Mirador del Rio and a buffet lunch at Los Cascajos (€12), just outside Haria. As we were only doing the 'northern island' tour, those of us not doing the full day were returned to our hotels after lunch. Altogether a most enjoyable trip :-)

A really great tour! Our guide explained everything to us at the beginning and we were able to set off together. He drove out in front to guide us and watch out for the traffic. We were able to enjoy a really great view. My partner had a lot of fun driving. We couldn't change because the weather was just a little too unstable. But that wasn't a bad thing as I really had a relaxing time at the back. We also stopped at several points to take photos. We were also just a small group, with one other couple. Our guide was able to explain everything to us really well in English. But he also knew French. We can only recommend it!

Great day out and the cave was amazing! I was apprehensive when we first arrived as there didn’t seem to be much there, but once inside you just kept going and the experience was great!

The course is very well organized, magnificent places,

We had a fantastic day out and the tour was amazing.
