Full description

Discover the colonial history of Mexico City on this day tour with an expert local guide. Choose to visit an ancient mine and learn about the lives and work of the inhabitants of the city before the Spanish came.

Have the opportunity to descend in an authentic mining elevator and travel through a beautifully illuminated 150-meter tunnel, appreciating the sparkling of the walls due to the precious metals still found in them. Inside get to know how the ancient settlers carried out the mining work, what tools they used to extract the metals, and what techniques they used to find the coveted metals. Coming out of the bowels of the earth, admire a mural by the muralist Juan O'Gorman, who, out of his love for this beautiful city, worked with materials from the region a beautiful mural dedicated to the last Aztec emperor.

Start your trip in downtown Mexico City where you'll take a scenic drive to the “silver city”. The city is nestled on a hillside with winding cobblestone streets, tile-roofed buildings, cozy squares, and a strong Old World ambiance that has survived through hundreds of years. Visit one of Mexico’s grandest churches, Santa Prisca. It was built in 1759 by French immigrant Jose de la Borda who literally stumbled upon a huge silver spring. Taxco is known worldwide for its quality silver mines and shops, you will have the opportunity to see and buy art pieces from Mexican artisans. Discover an ancient pre-Hispanic mine, and learn how the ancient inhabitants extracted precious metals before the conquest.

Had a great time with Carlos during our trip! He was very knowledgeable and full of information on the sights and history. Definitely recommend checking out this tour if you’re looking for a fun day trip from Mexico City! Also, our driver was fantastic. There are some winding roads up to Taxco, but we were never worried!

I was hoping this was a multilingual program but others in the group were Spanish speakers. Emmanuel- the guide was fantastic. He spent time with us specifically talking about the heritage and history of the places we went to, and explained this to us in English later. Time in Cuvernavaca was a little less, but is understandable due to the distances involved.

Taco is a delightful old-European-style city that was a unique experience. It's beautiful to see and a marvelously relaxing day. The shop people are very warm and down-to-Earth without that oversell pressure that is typical in Mexico. Our guide was an affable young man, glad to answer questions, who gave us some unique perspectives. I could have skipped Cuernevaca, but at lease we didn't spend much time there...
