Vienna: Wachau, Melk Abbey, and Danube Valleys Tour

1. Vienna: Wachau, Melk Abbey, and Danube Valleys Tour

Experience a romantic sightseeing tour by bus and boat from Vienna, introducing you to the beauty of the Wachau and Danube Valleys in Lower Austria. Visit the Benedictine Abbey of Melk with a guide. In winter, enjoy lunch in place of the Danube boat trip. Explore the River Danube as it flows around picturesque villages and steep vineyards. Pass by many ancient castles testify to the former importance of the river. One of these is the ruins of Dürnstein Castle, where, according to legend, Richard the Lionheart was kept imprisoned, and was eventually freed by his faithful minstrel Blondel. Then take a romantic boat trip along the legendary Danube (only in summer, in winter we offer you a lunch). In the old city of Krems, go to the heart of the Wachau wine-growing region, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site for its architectural and agricultural history. Then, follow your guide to the Danube River town of Melk. Visit the Benedictine Abbey of Melk, one of Austria's most famous Baroque buildings and its cultural and spiritual center.

Salzburg: Small-Group Day Trip from Vienna

2. Salzburg: Small-Group Day Trip from Vienna

Traveling in small groups of no more than 8 people, the intimate tour will take you through the breathtaking scenery of the Vienna Woods, with the peaks of the Alps in the distance, and on to the stunning Austrian lake district. Stop by picture-postcard Lake Attersee and visit the charming alpine village of St. Gilgen at lake Wolfgangsee, a famous location in the hit movie "The Sound of Music." Upon arrival in Salzburg, discover Salzburg's UNESCO-listed Old Town with your guide on a leisurely walking tour. Hear intriguing stories about the city's famous inhabitants as you pass Mozart's birthplace, the colorful gardens of Mirabell Palace, the cemetery of the Abbey of St. Peter, Salzburg Cathedral, and the Archbishop’s Palace. Spend the afternoon in Salzburg with plenty of free time to purchase lunch and wander Mozart town on your own before making the journey back to Vienna with your driver.

What people are saying about Melk

This trip was wonderful. The guide Thomas was so nice , helpful and professional . The arrangement was so good and the transportation was very comfortable. Small group of eight of us , all nice people. I had a amazing wine tasting trip . The boat trip was beautiful too . Highly recommend to everyone for Thomas and this trip .

Absolutely incredible. Beautiful views, delicious wine, and Tom was so knowledgeable about both the wine and Vienna as a whole! Would definitely recommend.

Durnstein, Melk abbey was so good. However, the Donau river cruise was a bit boring. It would be better if a little more time was spent on the Durnstein.

The trip was great, especially with elder people. The bus and boat were great for them.

Great guide, comfortable bus, very nice boat, well organized tour
