Full description

Embark on a guided tour along the Great Ocean Road of Australia's southern coast, departing from Melbourne. See the stunning rock formations along the coast, enjoy a picnic lunch, explore a section of the Great Otway National Park, and search for koalas at Kennett River.

Depart the Melbourne CBD (Central Business District) early in the morning, and travel inland to arrive at the "Shipwreck Coast" before the rest of the tour buses arrive. See the beautiful limestone rocks of the 12 Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, and Gibson Steps without the crowds. Hear the story of Loch Ard as you step down into a gorge carved by the Southern Ocean over hundreds of years. Enjoy a picnic lunch at one of these breathtaking spots. Then, drive back along the Great Ocean Road, waving at the other tour buses as they pass in the opposite direction. Stretch your legs in the Otway Ranges on a guided rainforest walk amongst some of the tallest tree species in the world. Drive back to the coastal road and visit the seaside town of Apollo Bay. Continue along the coast, traveling a twisting route with spectacular ocean, beach, and cliff views. Stop in Kennett River to look for koalas in their natural habitat amongst the eucalyptus trees. Pass through small seaside towns as you continue your journey and stop at Memorial Arch, where a sign honors the workers that built the road. Return to Melbourne for the end of your perfect Great Ocean Road experience.

We loved this tour! We made it to the Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, Mait’s Rest, and even got to stop to see some kangaroos and a koala! Maj was a terrific tour guide - knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating! Be prepared for a long day (7am to 7pm approx) and bring a water bottle and some snacks (the provided lunch was just OK). Would also recommend trying to schedule this tour for a day with good weather during your trip. We had great weather which made the views and photos amazing! Highly recommend

Overall the general day was good but the main feature, 12 Apostles, was very disappointing because of cloud/mist cover. The principle of getting there early to avoid the crowds is great if you get to see the main attraction. I thought given the weather the trip could have been slightly re-arranged to ensure main feature was viewable. The other events on the day, Koalas was good but you seem to cram a great deal into the day not always getting enough time at the main features.

Itinerary was solid. Van was a bit cramped with poor leg room, but had good Wifi. Lunch was just a small sandwich and a bag of trail mix. No obvious “morning tea” included as described on this app. Everything happened on schedule. Overall a good experience, but nothing spectacular.
