Full description
Travel back to the days of the Medici family on a self-guided tour of the Medici Chapel in the Basilica of San Lorenzo, Florence. Enter the chapels, built as a mausoleum for the Medici family, and discover treasures such as the 16th-century New Sacristy ("Sagrestia Nuova"). Part of the vast San Lorenzo Basilica complex, the chapels were richly decorated to serve as the last resting place for members of one of the most important and powerful families of the Florentine Renaissance from the mid-15th century onwards. Admire the genius of Michelangelo’s craftsmanship at the New Sacristy. Designed for the tombs of Lorenzo and Giuliano de' Medici, its mix of architecture and sculpture is considered one of the great masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance.

When you finally get to the top of the Duomo, the view is one of the most spectacular things you’ll ever see. Our tour guide, Vanessa, was so knowledgeable, passionate and friendly. We got special access to a private terrace that was incredible. We knew we were going to be excited about the views and art inside the cathedral, but we were truly surprised at how much we learned in the museum portion of the tour. Don’t miss out on this!

Although at first we had not booked it, then they recommended it to us, and we decided to book it, it is true that entering through the tombs and relics did not tell me much, but my goodness when we went up and went to the chapel, we were impressed. It is well worth a visit.

It is simply incredible, there are no words. How is it possible to work marble in such a way? They are like marquetry inlays, but in semi-precious stone and marble, incredible. The greatness of Michelangelo, a true genius, of painting, sculpture and architecture is present everywhere. If you want to understand how the marble was worked and how it is possible that with such basic techniques they were able to create such beauty and perfection, you have to see the museum of the "hard stone" where they explain the techniques and utensils used, to understand and understand so much merit. Of course the relics of the Chapel are incredible, but no less than the Medici tombs, especially that of Lorenzo "the magnificent" and his inseparable and beloved brother Guiliano, always together in life and after death, incredible history.
