Chelsea Market, Meatpacking, High Line Food & History Tour

5. Chelsea Market, Meatpacking, High Line Food & History Tour

Chelsea Market and the High Line are two of NYC's best attractions. This food and history tour features incredible insights and stories as well as some delicious food and fantastic NYC views. Plus the tour guides are truly entertaining and it's enough food for lunch. Did you know that although the area was originally residential, markets have existed in the district since the 1840s. People moved into tenements in the Meatpacking district in the 1820s to escape epidemics in what was then the main part of New York. In 1900, 250 slaughterhouses and packing plants filled the district; by the 1930s, those houses produced the nation’s third-largest volume of dressed meats. Five meatpacking companies still operate in the district. Boutiques and bars are more common than rump roasts these days, and the neighborhood continues to evolve almost daily. The food included at the Market features a Japanese-style taco, a slice of pizza from Filaga, a doughnut from Doughnuttery, and an halva and tahini tasting from Seed & Mill. Then, have a quick little shopping adventure at Artists & Fleas. After Chelsea Market, walk the beautiful and historic High Line Park and end the tour with an artisanal Belgian chocolate tasting at Neuhaus' Hudson Yards location.

The bus tour is highly recommended. You should do it on the first day, because you get a perfect overview of Manhattan and can then put together your tours for the other days. Our guide was Stefan, highly recommended. We were 7 people in our group on a small bus. It was very nice that you got out again and again during the tour, e.g. Central Park, Madison Square Park, Brooklyn Brigde, Wallstreet, WTC (with breaks for going to the toilet).

Our English tour would have been cancelled today if it hadn’t been for Stefan who was taking the German tour stepping in. He was fantastic, switching between German and English. The tour was interesting and informative. Even though we have visited NY before, we still saw things we had not seen before and learnt new and interesting facts. Well done Stefan and thank you to the German ladies for allowing us to join your tour - Danke

Excellent, Stefan, our guide, extremely friendly, had good answers to all questions and explained a lot. Definitely recommendable !! Anytime again with Stefan, but different tour. Yokes
