Porto: Private 8-Hour City Highlights Tour

2. Porto: Private 8-Hour City Highlights Tour

After being collected from your Porto accommodation, you will travel with your guide to the House of Music, which was inaugurated in 2005. From there you will travel to Clerigos Tower, which offers some of the best views over the city. Its doors opened on January 13, 1906, and haven't closed for 112 years. Following the tower, you will travel to the Lello Bookstore, which continues to satisfy everyone from literature lovers, to architecture students, to Harry Potter fans. You will next travel to Porto's historical center and Sao Bento Train Station. There you will discover the Porto Baixa (downtown), which is laid out around the Avenida dos Aliados (Avenue of the Allies), the city's focal point. This is where everything happens, and it is on this thoroughfare that you will find the imposing Oporto Municipal Council building. Afterwards, you will discover the Cathedral of Oporto, which is a church of Roman-Gothic structure. The next stage of your tour will lead you to "Palacio da Bolsa" and the San Francisco Church. The Palácio da Bolsa was built in the 19th century in a Neo-classical style, and has since been classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The Church of San Francisco was built in the 12th century, and was initially of Romanesque architecture before being transformed into Gothic style, then later into that of Baroque. The Cathedral of Oporto (or Porto Cathedral) is a church with a Roman-Gothic structure which began being built in the 12th century, later receiving several renovations in the 17th and 18th centuries. Inside it stands the medieval rosacea of the 12th century, and from outside you can enjoy the lateral galilee, a work of Nicolau Nasoni in 1736 which is decorated with tiles. Crossing the D. Luis Bridge, you will arrive in Gaia (the city on the opposing river bank). This is the spot where Port wine has been aged in hundreds of different cellars, and whilst there you will be able to visit one of those cellars. At the conclusion of your tour, you will be returned to your accommodation in Porto.

Fabulous from start to finish

Wonderful crew, professional, friendly & knowledgable, we had the most perfect trip. I got a reminder text before hand to tell us the weather conditions and remind us to bring wind jackets (lucky for us the weather was great so they weren’t needed). The boat was there waiting for us, absolutely stunning and in beautiful condition. We went out to sea where we could all have a go steering and trimming the sails, then we cruised along the river enjoying the views sipping the cold drinks and eating the nibbles (provided) while the skipper pointed out buildings of interest. We felt really well looked after and didn’t want to get off when we returned to the marina! We even received a photo of us all and a thank you after. I felt the whole experience was great value for money and definitely the highlight of our visit to Porto.

Gorgeous tour, great guide/captain, all around amazing experience!

Paulo, the owner/operator was a very nice guy and definitely made us feel welcome once we got on board. We got lost going there and ended up being a half hour late, but he was kind enough to extend our time to make up for it. Brought us some breakfast, waters and beers for the trip. We got to actually 'sail' ourselves for a bit out into the Atlantic, which was pretty cool. Once we were up river we were right on top of the Ribiera and there were some gorgeous views. Would totally do this again!

This was a really nice trip, and worth all the money! A great ship, a nice skipper and a fabulous route, on the waves of the Atlantic and the river Douro!

Super friendly skippers. Very nice and clean boat. Great experience. It is important to take a thick jumper and ideally a windproof coat.

Perfect activity with a really lovely skipper I recommend ++
