Full description
Discover Marseille in the morning with tastings in the oldest neighborhoods of this unique city. Your small group will be accompanied by a friendly and informative guide who will help you discover the best places and restaurants to make your visit to Marseille memorable. Start with a sweet chocolate made with olive oil, then walk near the cathedral to stop in a beautiful place to taste olive oil and tapenade (crushed olive paste). Continue to the oldest wine shop of Marseille, established in 1899, to taste a local wine with cheese and cold cuts. Walk through the old port and its typical fish market. Then, share a pizza, octopus salad, grilled sardine fish, and some panisses (slices of fried chickpea dough), with a beer, glass of wine or soda. Cross the old port in a famous little ferry boat and enjoy a great ice cream specialty, bouchée du roy, where Louis XIV once stayed. Alternatively, pick the 'Bouillabaisse' option to share a bouillabaisse (a typical Marseillan dish) on a terrace at the Old Port.

Tour was excellent

Our guide, Elisabeth, was very informative and lots of fun. It was great to learn about the history of Marseille through food, many common foods but in relation to which there is a rich history and story of Marseille. The providores were also informative and it was a pleasure to engage with people who are so passionate each about what they do. Although we have been to Marseille before, today we discovered new things and will return tomorrow to some of the stores to try the foods and wines again and buy some for ourselves.

An excellent walking tour of Marseille

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour, with our excellent guide Elisabeth. Interesting, informative and fun, with a fascinating view of the food and culture of the city. The walking was well paced, the stops well spread, and the scope broad; it introduced us to places we otherwise might not have explored. Thank you Elisabeth!
