Full description

Enjoy a day trip from Marrakech to the most beautiful valleys of the High Atlas Mountains region in the company of an experienced guide. First, on your way to Ourika Valley, enjoy the stunning landscapes. Take a 60-90-minute hike to see waterfalls and some spectacular vistas. Along the way, you’ll see Berber women extracting the unique Argan oil. Continue on to the second valley, Oukaimden, and take a secluded mountain road up to 1,800 meters above sea level. You’ll pass through many traditional Berber villages built from adobe and stones, and see the daily life of local Berber people. When you arrive at Sidi Fares, the third valley, you’ll be served a delicious full lunch. Enjoy a typical meal of soup, salad, Berber tajine, couscous, dessert, mint tea and mineral water in a local home surrounded by breathtaking scenery. After that, you’ll visit the fourth valley, Asni, best known for its fruit trees, where you can enjoy the views of the snowy summits of the High Atlas Mountains. The tour concludes with a drive back to Marrakech via the fifth valley of Tahanaout, arriving back in Marrakech at approximately 5:00 PM, and a drop-off at your accommodation.

The tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Morocco. Small group of 6 people in total made it feel like a private tour, which made a huge difference in that we did not have to rush, took stops for pictures whenever the group wanted, to some degree could influence what and when to do, etc.. The biggest asset of the trip was the guide - Abdul. Is there anything this man does not know? So knowledgeable, so enthusiastic, and just overall a great human being. Lunch, instead of a cafe or a restaurant, was with a Berber family who work with this company only. A very authentic experience; the family are so sweet, with such cute kids, and you could tell they had a great relationship with Abdul, so there was no 'gap year' feeling to it. Highly recommended!

This trip takes you through very different vistas as you progress through the Atlas Mountains. The mountain guide on our trek to the waterfalls was very solicitous, recognising those in our group needed a hand here and there on the way up (and down) the mountain. The driver keeps up an informative commentary and is happy to stop for photos along the route. The Berber family are very welcoming and provide a delicious meal in their home. Love that this trip is a small group tour (max 8 but 4 of us on our tour), has no extras to pay for and no visits to shops where you feel pressured to buy things. Top tip - I recommend trainers plus warm clothes (trousers and jacket) as the temperature is significantly cooler in the mountains.

Overall a very nice experience. Got to do a variety of things, from hiking to sightseeing to shopping, as well as learn a lot about Berber culture. Visiting the women's coop with spices and lotions was very informative, and we got to try some of their products. A few opportunities to buy souvenirs throughout the trip, but not forced upon you in any way. The lunch with the Berber family in their mountain top home was an amazing experience! And of course the mountains and valleys were beautiful. The roads got pretty treacherous at the highest points but luckily the driver is a pro! The guide (driver) and hiking guide were both very helpful and nice throughout, and knowledgeable about anything we wondered about. Comfortable van.
