Full description

Take a full-day private trip to Essaouira, one of Morocco’s most attractive coastal towns. Admire its undeniable charm, with whitewashed and blue shuttered houses, art galleries, wood workshops, fishermen and colorful boats, all enclosed by ancient red walls. Your private tour starts with pickup at your hotel or riad in Marrakech. Depart Marrakech, driving through lush valleys filled with orange groves, ancient olive trees, and working farms. Stop at Chichaoua for a coffee or snack at Cafe Afoulki. Continue past your first Argan trees. These special trees are valued for their nutritive, cosmetic, and medicinal properties. A relic species from the Tertiary Period, it is extremely well adapted to drought and other environmentally difficult conditions of southwestern Morocco and, while now endangered, under the protection of UNESCO. Arrive in Essaouira and wander the ancient streets, where it’s easy to imagine life before you. The streets have a Portuguese feel after they renamed the city in the 16th century and used it as a port city of their own. Dine on fish straight from the sea at any number of local restaurants, and ride a camel on the beach. After some free time to explore on your own, return to Marrakech for drop-off at your hotel or riad.

Very friendly driver and guides. They were considerate for our sightseeing expectations. However, the car was not suitable for 3 adult visitors. It would have been perfect for 4 people but not 5 inside. We had booked for 3 people and we were welcomed by a driver and a guide who therefore occupied the two front seats of the vehicle. Which left us with the 3 rear seats of the vehicle except that the middle seat was not a real seat. And driving 6 hours in these conditions in one day is not very comfortable.

The tour was very nice, our driver Rafa was very kind, friendly and very well prepared in telling us and describing the places along the way. Essaouira, even if it is about 3 hours away by car, is definitely worth a visit, even if only to see a Moroccan city so different from Marrakech. The local guide Hassan was very good in describing the history, facts, political and religious events that led this city to be so famous and interesting. Very pleasant day, good at all!

Super punctual pickup at 8am from the hotel by a very nice driver who answered all questions in a very charming way in the 3 hours driving time. The route to Essaouira is unspectacular, leads past 2 villages and there is a stop at a rest area (smoke & pee pause), 2nd stop argan oil cooperative, interesting but without obligation to buy. Upon arrival in Essaouira, a German-speaking guide led us briefly and crisply through the beautiful village. We did not like 2 stops in a wood workshop and a silversmith, we were offered goods at a discount. We immediately waved it off and was respected without hesitation. We spent the rest of the time individually eating fish in the harbor and in the medina. The return trip at 4pm was too early for us, we would have loved to spend more time in this sweet city. (Return in the dark would also have been less than ideal)
