Full description
Festas, or parish feasts, are a strong tradition in Malta, and they are celebrated spectacularly. One or more festas are going on every weekend, and we will take you to one in time for the fireworks! Following pick-up from your hotel on Malta Island, your English-speaking guide tells you about places of interest along the way to the festa village. Once you arrive in the village, a visit to the Parish Church, splendidly decorated to fit the occasion, is a must. Then take in the unique festa atmosphere with a leisurely stroll around the village streets, all beautifully lit up, and filled with stalls selling traditional festa sweets- The fireworks display often begins with the traditional Giggifogu, a whirl of light and colors made by flares on spinning wheels, while the music of the marching village brass bands fills the air.

The festival itself was super awesome and so was the guide. The organization in advance and the tour provider, which was also rated very poorly on Google, was a disaster. We were not confirmed to be picked up at the hotel we bought, but at another location. The company could not be reached by email via get your guide and even after 8 phone calls we still have not received a corrected pick-up confirmation. Luckily we were picked up from the hotel anyway.

A chance to see how Maltese celebrate their Saints

Although initial plans were for another fiesta, we failed to go there due to the delayed minibus with participants from north. The guide, Paul, decided to lead us to Ormi for the fiesta of St Sebastian. He offered us good information about the way Maltese celebrate their Saints and in specific people of Ormi St Sebastian. He managed to get us inside the Cathedral and in Ormi's Philarmonic whose interior was quite interesting and he let us free to enjoy after recommending us where to taste what. The air fireworks were more obvious out of the central square and the Cathedral. The show was amazing even by realizing that we could see fireworks from other two neighboring villages as well. The land fireworks at the square started later than programmed. However, Paul managed to delay our departure so we didn't miss any single firework at the square.

Impressive fireworks in a historic city

Rabat is worth seeing even without fireworks. Walking through these decorated little streets has catapulted us to another time. I liked seeing the church in this ambience. A nice travel companion who just didn't mention that Mdina is right next door. Because the wait until the fireworks was very long. A visit to Mdina would have been worthwhile.
