Full description

Have an adventure along the El Caminito del Rey and walk 100 meters above the Guadalhorce River. Discover the Conde de Guadalhorce Dam, Desfiladero de los Gaitanes Canyon, and Guadalhorce River's history and importance to El Caminito del Rey.

Meet your guide and board your bus for a ride towards Conde de Guadalhorce Dam. Begin your walking tour and learn how the dam is Málaga's main water reserve. Hear about the history of the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes and how the canyon was carved by the Guadalhorce River from your guide. Prepare to test your nerves on a high-up adventure along El Caminito del Rey. Follow the path which is about 3 kilometers long and less than 1 meter wide, hanging 100 meters above the Guadalhorce River. See the construction of a water channel from the reservoirs in the north to El Chorro and how the pathway was built for maintaining the channel. Fran(cisco) was the best tour guide I have ever had on an organized day trip, GetYourGuide or not! It is clear he loves his job and he is enthusiastic, charismatic, funny and informative. I especially appreciated the booklet of pictures he had to provide visual aids to what he was talking about. The day I went, the weather was perfect and the trail was not extremely crowded; we only caught up to the group in front of us once or twice. This hike is mostly flat and not strenuous at all for someone who is more or less in shape. Even though there is no bathroom on the trail, there is one at the beginning and the end. There are also opportunities to buy food before and after the hike.

Estela was our guide, she was awesome. Her English is very good. There is a lot of walk on this tour, and at some spots a little dangerous. Taking pics and videos is a must, but watch your step! Stay close to your group so that you can listen to all the interesting points the guide will tell you. If you have a need to go to the bathroom, know that they are not available once you start the tour. Have some toilet paper with you, as there is a station at the beginning before you enter but no toilet paper when we went. After seeing the route, the cars parked and how much we walked...I HIGHLY recommend taking a tour! You get a full bus, with air conditioning and comfy seats, plus a knowledgeable guide.

There were a lot of people, even though we went early in the morning. The groups were bumping into each other. You couldn't hear what the guide was saying, either because of the noise of the water or the other tourists. In other groups, the guide had a microphone and you could listen with headphones. There were a lot of stops which, as we couldn't hear anything, were unnecessary and otherwise it was a rush. You couldn't take pictures and enjoy the beauty in peace because the others were already going and you had to catch up with them. You probably come here once in your life and you pay a lot of money for the trip.
