Mahon: Harbor Boat Tour with Underwater Viewing & Commentary

1. Mahon: Harbor Boat Tour with Underwater Viewing & Commentary

Start your tour from Don Joan. Sail deep into the harbor. Enjoy the view of Mahon from the top deck or inside the boat. Hear historical stories from the guide as you pass the island of Lazareto. The towers at the harbor’s entrance once defended Mahon. Once beyond the harbor, head below deck for underwater views, weather permitting. Take photos of fish swimming through the seagrass. Catch a glimpse of other marine life. Admire the Mediterranean’s blue waters. Enjoy panoramic scenery from both sides of the boat before heading back to Mahon. Back on deck, listen to historical commentary as you pass the San Felipe Castle. Swing through the inlets around Es Castell and Georgetown. See if you can spot the Collingwood House and discover the connections between Britain and Menorca. Finish your tour back in Don Joan.

Port Mahon: 1-Hour Harbor Cruise with Underwater Views

2. Port Mahon: 1-Hour Harbor Cruise with Underwater Views

Start the tour by boarding the catamaran at the inner part of the port, just below the old city of Mahon. As you set off, see the Spanish Navel Base, coves and inlets, mussel beds, and beautiful summer houses on the Northern side of the port. During the journey, listen to historical commentary as you learn about the English-American Cemetery, the Quarantine Islands of Flat, Lazareto Island, and the Fortress of Isabel II (La Mola) at the mouth of the port. When you reach the sheltered and clear waters of Es Clot de la Mola, outside the port, the boat will slow down. Here, take the opportunity to go down into the underwater chambers and discover the marine life or enjoy a drink or ice cream on the sundeck. Sailing back into the port, enjoy wonderful views of the remains of Sant Felip's Fort and the former British military town of Es Castell. See the charming fishermen cove of Cales Fonts and then King's Island with the old British military hospital. After this, admire Admiral Collingwood's House, now a charming hotel and The Golden Farm, where the British Admiral Lord Nelson is supposed to have stayed. Marvel at these two colonial-style houses which date back to the 18th century, sitting on small hills on both sides of the port. Finally, pass by the Casino and Yachts Club area and take in views of the impressive skyline of Mahon.
