Full description
Depart Madrid for the medieval city of Toledo, picturesquely located on the banks of the River Tagus. The half-day tour provides a full introduction to the historic city, wandering winding streets to monuments that reveal its fascinating past. Start with a panoramic walking tour of the old quarters, and visit the Plaza del Ayuntamiento to see the magnificent façade of the Primate Cathedral of Saint Mary, the old Palace of Justice, and Toledo City Hall. Continue through the former Jewish Quarter, wandering the narrow streets to the Church of St. Tomé, location of El Greco’s famous painting, “The Burial of Count Orgaz.” Visit the old Synagogue of Ste. Maria la Blanca, which remains as a symbol of the co-existence of Toledo’s “3 Cultures.” End with a visit to a typical Damasquino (Damascene) factory to see the precious jewelry perfected by the Arabs and brought to Spain by the Moors.

Sol, the tour guide was in my opinion quite disorganized and was unable to sustain the attention and interests of the group. With limited time, she could have managed the tour better. At times we would be walking for long periods of time in extreme cold weather. We had to switch buses. She was knowledgeable but lacked people skills. I would prefer someone far pleasant and interesting. We were not able to visit the inside of churches except maybe for one so my goal to compare churches was not fulfilled.

Consiglio vivamente
