Madrid’s Royal Palace was built in the 18th century on the site of the Old Alcazar. With its Italian Baroque style, it is one of the most beautiful and best-preserved palaces in Europe and a symbol of the permanence of Madrid as the capital of the kingdom. Since that time the most important receptions of the Spanish Crown are still celebrated at the Palace. Some of the rooms were amazing but due to a no photo policy I actually can’t remember everything! I suppose they want you to buy the extras in the shop at the end. I did look at the publications but the pictures in them were really poor. Again rushed through - this seems to be a common theme in Madrid but the one upside to early entry was you were in & out before the crowds arrived so for this reason only I recommend booking early entry Don’t miss going to the armoury - this area was so interesting but again a no photo policy

I would recommend this tour to anyone looking for in depth knowledge of this beautiful Palace. Please not this event is not very stroller friendly. While you are allowed to bring a stroller during the tour, we decided to store it at the onsite locker for 1 Euro and we were very happy with our decision. There are a few flight of steps and some rooms are very compact.

We practically had the palace to ourselves!

The headsets didn’t work well, but I didn’t care; I didn’t bother to use mine because I didn’t need them as we practically had the palace to ourselves! Beatrice was wonderful - well informed, funny, able to deal with all sorts of...personalities, and moved us along at the perfect pace so we were able to see an amazing amount of this breathtaking former royal residence. She also pointed out areas of the palace where you can continue to tour on your own should you like to stay after the guided part is done. What more can you ask? Well done!
