Full description
The beautiful Ribeira do Cidrão canyon lies in the middle of the island of Madeira, within the valley that the nuns from Santa Clara Convent fled to when Funchal was attacked by pirates in 1566, giving it its name as the Nun's Valley. After a walk of approximately 20 minutes on a dirt road and along a levada, the canyoning adventure begins. Along the way, get ready to conquer six rappels, the highest being 15 meters. Discover a series of refreshing pools that you can jump and slide into, and take in the beautiful mountain views which serve as a constant backdrop. After the canyon, walk another 20 minutes back up.

We did this for the first time. But it was great to do. Difficulty was not too bad. We did 7 descents and 3 slide descents through the water. The 2 guides were superb. They guided us well from the beginning to the end. They made a lot of jokes and told a lot about the mountains how it originated, and the different rock layers it consisted of.

Nice (replacement) tour, with great care

We actually booked the tour in Chao Ribeira. Unfortunately it was canceled due to a wind break (the canyon was closed). The offer for the alternative tour came immediately from Lokoloko. Communication via email was very good. The support during the tour was of course also great. We didn't have a second thought that something would not work or that we would not be able to do anything. In addition, there was also entertaining information about botany.
