From Tromsø: Fun and Easy Dog Sledding Adventure

1. From Tromsø: Fun and Easy Dog Sledding Adventure

Drive your own team of huskies with this extraordinary experience, a must-do for anyone visiting Northern Norway. The dog sled has been used for centuries throughout the Arctic region, mainly for travel, hunting and transportation and now you get to take part in this historical and cultural, fun activity. The tour departs from the city center of Tromsø from where you will be picked up for a scenic 50-minute transfer to the camp in Breivikeidet. Upon arrival at our camp in Breivikeidet, situated in a picturesque valley close to the sea, you will be welcomed by our friendly staff. We will provide you with polar insulated suits, boots, hats and mittens before heading out on our dogsledding adventure. Your guide will go through the safety instructions and show you the basics of driving the sled. Two people will share one sled: one as a driver and the other one as a passenger, and you will get the chance to swap places halfway through the tour. This will provide everyone with the opportunity to experience the life of a dog musher and to take all the photographs they want while being a passenger. After listening carefully to the demonstration and a few minutes of practice, you will enjoy driving on the open fields and inside the forest trails. After your dog sledding ride and arriving back at the camp, you are invited into our lavvo (a traditional sami tent), where you can enjoy a hot drink and cake around the campfire. Once you changed back to your normal clothes, and waved one last goodbye to the huskies, it is time to board back the bus to Tromsø.

My seven year old son and I had an incredible time dog sledding. It's definitely one of the best things that I have ever done. Catching the coach was easy, when we arrived we were taken to the changing room to be kitted out with snowsuits, boots, gloves, they helped me get my son dressed which was really helpful. After this we had a quick demonstration on how to stay on the sleigh as a driver and passenger and then we were off around the Norwegian countryside. The views were spectacular and we loved every second of it. We got to go over some moguls which was really fun and we stopped halfway for photos. Once we finished the sleighing we got to to meet the husky puppies and the other dogs who were so friendly and excited to see us. It was such a truly wonderful experience and I recommend it to anybody.

Admittedly, I was skeptical about this excursion because I had never ridden a snowmobile let alone driven one, but our guides were so wonderful and made it so easy that this experience became one of the best parts of our trip. Everyone was so nice and helpful and the guides were great with our two boys (8&10). The soup and bread at the end were perfect to warm us up after so much fun. And the scenery was breathtaking! I will never forget this trip and would go back in a heartbeat. Thank you Camp Troll!

The Introduction was good, funny guides, I was happy that the equipment saved me from the cold weather . Beautiful view and we got time to take pictures and one guid told us the story’s of the trolls. We were lucky because it was a clean view and new snow.

Well prepared, well executed, professional staff. Lots of fun., we were lucky with the weather

It's an excellent trip for us—fantastic views on the trip and friendly guides.
