Full description

Established in the 11th century by William the Conqueror, Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. It has been remodeled by a succession of kings and queens, including Henry II, Charles II, and George IV. Today the Queen spends most of her private weekends at Windsor Castle, which is also used regularly for ceremonial occasions. Your ticket provides admission to the Castle, including the magnificent State Apartments, which are furnished with some of the finest treasures from the royal collection.

Among the masterpieces are paintings by Holbein, Rubens, and Van Dyck, as well as fine English and French furniture. During the winter months, the sumptuous private apartments created by George IV, known as the Semi-State Rooms, are added to the visitor route. Your admission also includes access to St. George's Chapel. This is one of the most beautiful ecclesiastical buildings in England, and is the final resting place for 10 monarchs, including Henry VIII and Charles I. There is a lot to see and do at Windsor Castle, so please allow enough time to make the most of your visit, which is likely to last between 2.5 and 3 hours. The Castle is situated at the top of a steep hill, and the visitor route covers long distances, so comfortable shoes are advised.

A lovely place to visit and wander around. We spent some 3 hours inside the castle and grounds. All the staff were very knowledgeable and were happy to answer questions and chat about the room they were working in, giving you little snippets you wouldn't know if you didn't talk to them. Wear comfortable shoes! We were lucky to see the changing of the guards which was a bonus.

We had the 3:30 admission tickets arrived a little after 3:30 were told to get in the line for the castle … the line to see “the doll house” was about a half hour long so we were advised if we wanted to see the rest of the castle we needed to skip that . When we exited they were closing behind us and we were told the church closed at 4 . Why were we not told to go there first ? So we were quite disappointed with the people working and guiding us to not tell us the info prior … also 3:30 is OBVIOUSLY TO LATE to get tickets to see the majority of the castle . I wish I would have known - I will definitely need to come back :/

Despite pre booking and paying for our tickets in advance there was still a wait over more than half an hour. The guide was very informative and as it is pre recorded you can take your own time to listen to the descriptions and look at all look at the exhibits.
