Full description
Take a spine chilling walking tour of London's historic Whitechapel district, and follow in the footsteps of Jack the Ripper's terrifying killing spree of the autumn of 1888. The 2-hour tour explores how a series of terrible murders gripped the East End of London. It’s a story that can send shivers down your spine to this very day. The discovery of a body set in motion one of the most famous man-hunts in London’s criminal history. For over 120 years Ripperologists and amateur sleuths have been trying and failing to discover the identity of the man known as Jack the Ripper. Throughout the tour you will explore the historical background of the Whitechapel murders and their passing into a genre almost in their own right. Examine how public perception of these gruesome but gripping crimes has been shaped, and compare it to the reality of 1888 as you go to the actual sites of the murders.

The tour was excellent. Our guide Angie was dressed for the occasion, she is a tower of knowledge in all things about Jack the Ripper. We walked the streets of Whitechapel and surrounding areas for 2 hours and it felt like only 1 hour. We saw photos, we visited streets where murders were committed. I cannot recommend the tour enough. Sadly it will probably be an app which you download and walk around yourself in 10years, so get the experience of a tour guide now!

Our tour guide Jeremy was energetic and enthusiastic. He made us feel comfortable and involved. It was a great tour and the 2 hours felt like they flew by. He was very informative and made it a fun experience. We were running slightly behind due to rail closures and they couldn’t accommodate us enough. They guided us over the telephone to catch up with the tour and didn’t make us feel bad for being slightly late.

Philip was well informed, engaging and entertaining. The geography of London and the continual rejuvination of the city mean that it is a little hard to get a real picture of the Victorian London in which these crimes were committed but his descriptions were vivid and his retelling clear. He can't help it if most of the sites have been built over now after all!
