From Ljubljana: Trip to Lake Bled and Bled Castle

1. From Ljubljana: Trip to Lake Bled and Bled Castle

Lake Bled is often mentioned as the pearl of the Slovenian Alpine region due to its emerald-green waters, picture-perfect postcard church on the island, medieval castle on the rocky cliff, and some of the highest peaks of the Slovenian Alps as the background. Take a short walk along the lakeshore as the beauty of the surrounding mountains reflects off the lake surface. No matter the season, you'll enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the lake and the fresh mountain air.  Perched atop a steep cliff more than 100 meters above the lake, Bled Castle is the iconic image of a medieval fortress, with towers, ramparts, moats and a terrace offering magnificent views. The castle houses a unique treasure - a reconstruction of Gutenberg's wooden printing press, on which the master printer will demonstrate old printing techniques using hand-made paper. Take the Pletna boat, a traditional boat known only to this region, to the tiny tear-shaped island on the lake. Upon returning from the island, stop at the local patisserie and taste Bled’s famous cream cake, kremšnita. In the last 60 years they have sold as many as 12 million of these cakes - they are definitely a can't-miss and a perfect way to top off your day.

Then, sitting comfortably in an air-conditioned minivan, depart for the beautiful Lake Bled, nestled amid the Julian Alps on the edge of Triglav National Park. During the drive, gaze out at rural Slovenia and listen to your guide’s commentary about the glacier-formed lake. On arrival, you can spend a few moments drinking in views of the picturesque lake, backed by towering mountains, and the fairy-tale steeple of the Church of the Assumption of Mary on Bled Island, there is a tiny rock islet in the center of the lake. Had a fantastic day at Lake Bled, Bled Castle and surrounding areas. A tasty traditional Slovenian dish for lunch by Lake Bled. Vasja was a brilliant tour guide of the area, knew loads of history of the area and made sure we were filled with facts and stories of the local area. He was flexible with what we preferred to do with our time on the day and made the trip really special. Really recommend this trip, a great way to visit the areas and with a really friendly tour guide (who showed his passion for Slovenian Ski Jumpers).

Nina our guide and driver was excellent - she was extremely knowledgeable, ran a great tour and we had plenty of our own time explore. We previously booked a different tour as we were worried about getting back in time for a flight and the company offered us this longer tour where we saw a lot more, and then dropped us to the airport on the way back which was extremely kind. All in all super helpful, great company and Nina made it a great day - so much to see, highly recommend.

We had a wonderful day exploring lake Bled. We got a boat over to the island and walked for miles. We had a slice of 'Bled cake' at the Devil's cafe, which is right by the boats as recommended by our guide. Delicious

Great trip, nice guide! We liked the tour and there were only three people in the car, thus we indeed liked it. Note that entrance fee is not included and it might be a bit expensive all in all over 120 euro.

Great experience! The guide was very kind and full of knowledge about the history of Slovenia and Bled.
