Full description
On this full-day tour travel to Azeitão, an area that’s well known for its wines and cheeses. Visit some of the region's top wine cellars and taste fine wines. The first stop is at the renowned cellars of José Maria da Fonseca, where you’ll learn about the winery’s history and sample some of its wines. Next visit Quinta de Alcube, a wine cellar owned by a family for over a century. It is a traditional cellar that produces only 250,000 bottles a year. The wines are sold directly to customers, making it difficult to find them in shops. In your third and final experience, taste up to 3 more wines in a mid-sized winery, or even the “Mother House” of the wine region, where you can see what most of the 21 different wineries produce in the region. You will also sample some traditional locally-produced cheese, bread, and other goods. In addition to all the tastings, marvel at the views of the Arrábida Natural Park and its mountain range.

Our group of 4 had the most fun on our wine tour with João! He is incredibly hospitable and made the experience unpretentious and very accessible to those with deep wine backgrounds and those without (like me!). It felt less like a “tour” and more like hanging out with a good friend, despite the age and background difference (we are four black/brown women in our mid and late twenties), which I think is a testament to his welcoming and upbeat demeanor. If you’re visiting Lisbon, please take some time to explore Setubal and taste some fantastic wines!

My friend and I did a wine tasting tour with Joao a few weeks ago, and it was incredible! Joao picked us up from our Airbnb right on time, and he drove us in a nice, clean van about an hour out of Lisbon to the wine region. During the drive, Joao was able to answer questions we had about Lisbon, wine, and various topics. Throughout the whole day, it was nice to have Joao to answer any and all questions we had. The tour included three tastings with a wide variety of types of wines. As someone who doesn’t personally appreciate fortified wines, I was happy that the tastings weren’t solely one type of wine. This was definitely a 5 STAR tour and 100% worth the money! Highly recommend to anyone visiting Lisbon and even remotely interested in wine.

João picked us up close to our Airbnb. Then we drove round about 45 minutes to the first vineyard/museum. We were shown around and learned about the history of the company (7 generations) and how the vineyard is making wine. Afterwards we had a wine tasting with two wines. The second spot was a farm where we saw cork trees, tasted grapes from the bush and tried 5 local wines. The last stop was a village that acts as a storage for local producers. Here we tried another 5 wines and had a great goat cheese plate. You are not forced or animated at any stage of the trip to purchase the wine. It's your personal choice. João is a very talkative person. We learned a lot about wines from him, but also Portuguese olive oil, his personal story and wine-production efforts. He's a really great guy and we totally recommend the trip. The whole trip was covid19 regulations conform. A small tip - take some water with you because there was none offered with the wine tasting.
