Full description
Ride a futuristic Segway through Belém, the historic district of the Age of Discovery. After a short practice session to get you comfortable on your Segway, you’ll head off with your guide to explore the neighborhood for 1.5 hours. It was from this waterfront that Vasco de Gama and other explorers parted on their voyages, events celebrated today by grand monuments and museums throughout the area.
The sensational architecture of the Tower of Belém and the Jerónimos Monastery is the result of the discovery of the sea route to India, the opening of trade with Japan, and the colonization of Brazil, Africa, and Asia. These monuments are adorned with motifs of exotic lands elaborately carved in stone.
This is also Lisbon’s museum district, home to the Coaches Museum, the iconic MAAT, and the Berardo Museum. Despite all these attractions, it’s a pastry shop that receives the most visitors. At Antiga Confeitaria de Belém, devour one (or several) of Lisbon’s famous custard tartes that originated here, and are unlike any others found in the country.
