Walk around Lefkara manmade lake, near Pano Lefkara village

2. Walk around Lefkara manmade lake, near Pano Lefkara village

The focus of the trip is the exploration of the scenic manmade lake of Lefkara, close to the picturesque village of Pano Lefkara. The lake is surrounded by high hills, and one can see an islet and various lovely formations around. The local flora is diverse and the geology is characterised by shades of red. The walking route on the dirt road can extend to at least ten kilometers, but it is the first five that provide a view towards the lake. The easy walk is on a hardly used dirt road. We walk back and forth on the same route. Pano Lefkara is the default meeting point of the trip. Here one has the opportunity to explore the stone-built village, which is the production center of the famed lace. Leonardo da Vinci visited the village and loved Lefkaritika lace. Besides meandering through the maze of the village, the village's central church is worth a visit and according to local tradition, it houses a piece from the Holy Cross.  Our service doesnot include transportation. At the same time, we can gladly give travellers a free ride in our company's car. This would not be a paid service and we hold a private car insurance.

Walk around Kelephos Bridge near Omodos Village

3. Walk around Kelephos Bridge near Omodos Village

Start your tour by heading to the Krassohoria wine villages and stop at Omodos village. This is the usual meeting point (we can give travellers a free ride from Limassol, Larnaca or Nicosia). Great meeting point because it is close the the start of the walk, it is convenient and has various amenities including public restrooms. We drive to the expansive Paphos Forest for the walk. Usually we start walking from the downstream end of Play Valley. The length that we do will depend on travellers profile and preferece. Platy Valley is a serene place in Cyprus, characterised by a stream that has water all year round. We walk on a dirt road next to the stream on a linear route, returning on the same road. There is a plethora of local plant species, dominated by plane and alder trees. One can also see pines, bracken, storax, maple, even figs. In early autumn Cyclamen bloom here. As we walk maybe we will be fortunate to spot crabs walking on the road. If we are very lucky we may spot moufflon. Unfortunately we are likely to meet a few cars using this road. Depending on arrangements we either walk to or go by car to Kelephos' medieval Venetian bridge, which according to tradition is built on a camel trail. The trail was apparently used by camel caravans to transport mined material from the mines on the north side of the Troodos mountains to Paphos port. The local stream has water throughout the year. The setting is beautiful, with higher water flow during the rainy season and with more greenery in summer when the alders have their leaves and the bracken are full of life. We then drive to Omodos village, one of the largest villages of Krasochoria. For years it has been well-known for its vineyards and wine and is still today known for its prime produce. Omodos developed around the ancient monastery of the Holy Cross (connected to St. Helen’s Passage to Cyprus) and is a popular destination for visitors.
