San Martin: Lanin Volcano, Huechulafquen Lake & Junin Tour

1. San Martin: Lanin Volcano, Huechulafquen Lake & Junin Tour

Start the tour at 9 AM with pickup from your hotel in San Martín de los Andes. Begin driving along a 40km route through the steppe to Junin de los Andes. When you arrive, admire this small, historic city which is one of the oldest settlements in the province. It is known as a fishing town with many religious buildings. First, visit a local church called La Virgen de las Nieves and observe how Catholicism and Indigenous culture have been mixed. Then, take a stroll through the local market and feel free to shop for handicrafts.  Then, continue the tour towards Huechulafquen Lake. During the drive, follow the Chimehuin River and marvel as the landscape changes into dense Patagonian Forest. Arrive at the entrance to the National Parks for a quick stop to buy entrance tickets (not included in the tour price). At midday, choose to have lunch in a Mapuche Restaurant or feel free to bring your own food and have a picnic beside the lake. Continue driving along the entire northern coast of Huechulafquen Lake. Finally, arrive at Paimún Lake and admire the spectacular views towards the mountain range, and incredible panoramas of Lanín Volcano and its glaciers. From here, have the option to take an optional 1.5-hour cruise on the lake for an opportunity to appreciate beautiful views of the El Escorial volcanic formation (not included in activity price). Alternatively, enjoy some free time to take a hike at Paimún Lake. Finally, return back to San Martín de los Andes for approximately 6:30 PM.

San Martín: Quila Quina Beach & Mapuche Community Tour

2. San Martín: Quila Quina Beach & Mapuche Community Tour

Start the tour with pick up from your hotel in San Martín de los Andes. Set off on the 18 km drive towards the Lanin National Park to Villa Quila Quina on the southern shore of the Lácar Lake. Travel along a section of the Seven Lakes Route - a 6 km scenic drive that passes through some of Patagonia's most beautiful landscapes. Admire the splendid views of Lácar Lake before making a detour towards Quila Quina. As you travel, find out more about the story of the local indigenous peoples, the Mapuche, and how they live. Also, learn about the flora and fauna of the National Park. Arrive in Quila Quina where a local Mapuche community lives, grow vegetables, and farm animals. In this area there is also a private residential village with summer houses. Head down to the beach with a pier and restaurant where you can have lunch. Admire the beautiful panoramas of the Andes mountains from the viewpoints. Finally, either return to San Martín de los Andes via the Arrayan circuit - driving across the Patagonian Andean Forest or, return back to town by taking a 30-minute boat trip for an additional fee.
