1. Uganda: 7-Day Trip to See Gorillas, Chimps, and Big Cats
Day 1: Pick up and Transfer to Kibale Forest NP Your driver/guide will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to Kibale Forest National Park. Meal plan: Lunch and Dinner Lodge: Turaco Treetops Lodge/ Similar Day 2: Chimp tracking Kibale Forest and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth NP Have breakfast and head to the rangers’ point where you will receive some briefing on the dos and don’ts during chimp trekking. Thereafter, you will proceed to trek the chimps in the Kibale Forest. Later transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Lodge: Marafiki Safari Lodge/ Similar Day 3: Morning game drive and afternoon boat trip along the Kazinga Channel Be up early and have your breakfast. Proceed for a morning game drive in the park during which you will see Lions, Elephants, Leopard (though a rare sighting), Cape bushbuck, Cape Buffalos, Defassa Waterbucks, Giant Forest Hogs, and Uganda kob among others. In the afternoon you will go for a 2-hour boat trip on the Kazinga Channel. Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Lodge: Marafiki Safari Lodge/ Similar Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi with en-route game drive in Ishasha area Have breakfast then set off for Bwindi Impenetrable NP through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park famously known for its resident tree-climbing lions. Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Lodge: Bakiga Lodge Day 5: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - Lake Bunyonyi After breakfast you will transfer to the park headquarters for the briefing before you set off through the tracks to search for the gorillas. You will go with packed lunch because it’s hard to determine how long it will take you to meet these humble giants. However, the time ranges between 2-9 hours depending on the movement of the giant primates. The activity is tedious, it entails walking along steep hilly tracks however encountering these great relatives of man erases all the poor memories/ hardships you went through in trying to find them. Later continue driving further south to Lake Bunyonyi. A very beautiful lake with 29 islands which might make you feel like you are out of Africa. Lake Bunyonyi is the second deepest lake in Africa after Lake Tanganyika. Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Lodge: Lake Bunyonyi Rock Resort Day 6: Transfer to Lake Mburo NP and enjoy the evening game viewing Have breakfast and set off to Lake Mburo NP. Drive past the intensely terraced Kigezi hill slopes into Mbarara town and finally Lake Mburo NP. Arrive in the park in the early afternoon and take some rest before proceeding out for the late afternoon (evening) game viewing. Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Lodge: Rwakobo Rock Resort Day 7: Mburo park (nature) walk and transfer to Entebbe or Kampala Enjoy your early breakfast and proceed for the Mburo morning park/nature walk in the presence of an armed Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger/guide.
