    Full description
    Depart from La Paz on a fully guided day-trip that sails on Titicaca Lake and visits Copacabana and Yumani as well as Isla del Sol. Enjoy a tasty lunch and discover the famous Inca Steps and the Inca Fountain. Leave La Paz at around 7 am and after approximately 3 hours you will arrive at Tiquina, the narrowest part of the Lake Titicaca. Cross to the other side by boat and continue the trip on a 30-minute bus ride to the town of Copacabana. Once there, have lunch and then head towards the shore to catch a boat to the Isla del Sol, where you will see the Inca steps and the Inca fountain, also known as the youth fountain.  This Inca fountain represents the 3 pillars of the Aymara Culture, Ama Sua, Ama Llulla, and Ama Quella, which mean, you shall not steal, shall not lie, and shall not be lazy. Afterward, visit the town of Yumani and then start heading back to the port to catch the boat back to Copacabana. Once in Copacabana, explore the church, main square, and the crafts market. By 6 PM you will catch the bus back to La Paz, where you should arrive back in the city by 10 PM.

    Could have been a disaster but it was great! All the streets were blocked and secondary roads had been dug up with a backhoe! Welcome to Bolivian peaceful protest (a bloqueo). Many tours never made it out of La Paz. Thanks to our knowledgeable, intrepid and highly skilled driver, we made it out to the expressway on dirt roads with no signs. The detour took about 3-4 hours. Then we made it to every sight promised! We had guide Juan, a gentle soul educated at university in tourism and a native Aymara local full of knowledge of the geology, customs, plant life and history. This tour made a huge impression on us, for the beautiful sights on this tour, for our guides who persisted in getting us to our destinations come hell or high water, and for witnessing Bolivian activism.

    You utilise the public bus but we had no qualms about this - it felt similar to previous private coaches we had used previously. It was comfortable and efficient. Juan (our English speaking tour guide) was AMAZING - thank you, Juan. He is from Lake Titicaca and so speaks very passionately and knowledgeably about the history of this breathtaking area. He was very kind and it was invaluable having him to guide us through the day (really, don’t think we could put a price on that - you could probably book the bus and boat for cheaper but with poor Spanish I think it would almost be impossible). Also make sure you download the app. They tried to contact us via this to confirm pick up (instead of email/WhatsApp/calling) and when we didn’t reply they cancelled our pick up. Luckily we were able to get through to them on the morning when our bus didn’t show up and they organised a second tour guide, but it did set us back an hour.
