  • Walk 1+ kilometers through the city's underground tunnels
  • Have the experience of being in total darkness
  • See real bunker equipment from the Cold War era
Full description

The first part of your tour will be a visit to the city's underground river/drain tunnel system. This will involve 1.5 to 3 hours of walking through underground tunnels, equipped with special flashlights and Soviet military rubber gumboots. With your experienced guide, you will learn everything there is to know about Kyiv's underground world, feel what it's like to be in absolute darkness, and experience the city in a totally new way. Then, for the second part of this combo tour, explore one of the abandoned Cold War bunkers, forgotten since the USSR times. Get the chance to open a massive Soviet hermetic blast door in an abandoned fallout shelter, and feel what it would be like to live in an era in which people live in constant fear of a nuclear attack. In this 1-hour guided tour, you'll touch one of the hidden pages of Ukrainian history, see real civil equipment frozen in time, and learn about survival after a nuclear war.

Very interesting! There were only three of us, so we had the guide to ourselves. He knew his way around and told us a lot of interesting things. But you should (theoretically) know that the tour is not legal. We learned this from the guide right at the beginning. However, it is not dangerous as the police in Kiev do not roam or look into the underground worlds. However, the price of the tour is a bit high for about 2.5 hours. In Germany there are comparable tours for sometimes 30-50% of the price!

Full on, be prepared to crawl, crouch and squeeze into spaces, great.

Our guide spoke very good English and was obviously a fan of what he did so his enthusiasm helped the tour. It goes for as long as it states and you will enjoy it. If you do not like the dark or small spaces perhaps pass this one by but you will miss a good tour. Also be prepared to get a little dirty so come dressed as the tour details explain. It is a great tour, I loved it and would do it again but in a different part of Kiev or a more extreme route, Do it and you will enjoy it.

Awesome experience

Interestingly, only 3 participants in such a small group had an interest in history. Sometimes the tunnels were cramped, so if there is a cramped place I would not recommend it. It was an incredible feeling to turn off all the lights so it was dark in the tunnel! We also saw a bat, luckily rats don't live in tunnels
