From Kuala Lumpur: Private Fireflies Tour and Seafood Dinner

1. From Kuala Lumpur: Private Fireflies Tour and Seafood Dinner

You will be picked up from your hotel in central Kuala Lumpur and driven to Kuala Selangor, approximately 1.5 hours away. Kuala Selangor is a small village on the banks of the Selangor River. The village is well-known, as you can find millions of fireflies there.   Upon arrival you’ll visit Bukit Melawati, where Fort Altingsburg is located. A lighthouse strands on top of the hill, surrounded by tall trees. Look out for local birds, silvered leaf monkeys and long-tailed macaques. You’ll head to a nearby fishing village for a typical seafood dinner before making your way to Kampung Kuantan.   At around 6:30 PM you’ll board a boat and row along the river to see the fireflies. Millions of fireflies present you with a dazzling display of lights flickering in synchrony, that resemble twinkling electric lights on a Christmas tree. You will be dazzled at the sight. At 8:30 PM, you’ll depart from Kuala Selangor and drive back to Kuala Lumpur in the comfort of a private vehicle.

2. From Kuala Lumpur: Kuala Selangor Fireflies & Wildlife Tour

This tour will take you to Kuala Selangor in the quiet hamlet of Kampung Kuantan, where one of the largest firefly colonies in the world exists. When you arrive, you'll visit Kota Melawati, formerly known as Fort Altingsburg, with its old execution block, royal mausoleum and colonial buildings. You'll experience the highlight of the tour at Kampung Kuantan. As a small, non-motorized boat (tong kang) carries you upstream in the peaceful night, you'll notice an array of blinking trees. At first, this sparkly display looks like an endless row of Christmas trees, but the synchronized, rhythmic flashing is actually produced by thousands of fireflies. Your skilled local oarsmen will make this experience a memorable and unforgettable one.

Kuala Selangor: Fireflies Tour with Batu Caves & Dinner

3. Kuala Selangor: Fireflies Tour with Batu Caves & Dinner

Kuala Selangor, a small town conquered by the Dutch in 1784, is most famous for its fireflies sanctuaries. It is said that this is one of the biggest firefly colonies in the world. Another highlight is the delicious seafood in the most scenic location. It is located well off the normal tourist route and hence still maintains its traditional village atmosphere. This is your best bet for a long peaceful ride away from the busy city. In this tour, you will see the Bukit Melawati. This small peak was once a mighty fortress built to safeguard the state. The Altingburg Lighthouse continues to be the main attraction with an awesome view of the Straits of Malacca. You will also get the chance to meet the unique Silver Leaf Monkeys. The little baby monkeys are born with a golden color, which eventually turns black like the adults.

Batu Caves & Firefly Watching in Kuala Selangor

4. Batu Caves & Firefly Watching in Kuala Selangor

Enjoy an afternoon and evening tour to the dramatic 400-million-year-old Batu Caves and see hundreds of thousands of twinkling fireflies on a boat tour of the Selangor River. Continue to Batu Caves to roam in the prehistoric caves, after a climb of 272 steps. See some of the Hindu temples that have been established here since the early 1900s, such as the temples to Lord Murugan, Siva, and Ganesh. Next, you will go to Kuala Selangor, one of the most historic and conflicted areas during the early stages of the Malay Sultanate Selangor. It is also famous for its Seafood Restaurant, where you will enjoy dinner. But before dinner, stop at Bukit Malawati at the highest point in Kuala Selangor, and admire the fort that monitored ships along the Strait of Malacca and Selangor River. The area is home to some cheeky Silver Leaf Monkeys, which are more friendly and tame compared to the monkeys at Batu Caves. Sit down to a delicious dinner at the Seafood Restaurant and enjoy wonderful sunset views over the Selangor River. Vegetarian and chicken options are available in addition to the seafood specialties. Finally, drive to Kampung Kuantan Fireflies Park, and climb aboard a manual paddle boat. Quietly float out to see the incredible twinkles of the largest fireflies colony in the world. Marvel at the ability of these amazing lightning bugs to synchronize their light patterns, before your return to Kuala Lumpur at approximately 21:30.
