Full description
Visit one of the world’s most remarkably preserved mines, the Wieliczka Salt Mine, on this trip from Krakow. Dating back to the 13th century, this mine produced table salt up until the year 2007 and was designated as an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978. Lying on nine levels, the mine’s original excavations stretch for the total of 300 kilometers, reaching a depth of up to 327 meters. Descend into the mine by staircase (380 steps) to the 1st level (at a depth of 64 meters) and return to the surface by lift from the 3rd level (at a depth of 135 meters). Marvel at the Wieliczka Mine’s impressive corridors as well as its remarkable statues and figures. Carved into walls of rock salt by miners or sculpted from dissolved salt by contemporary artists, these works of art help to describe the rich past of this historic site. The mine also has a long tradition of tourism attracting famous visitors such as Nicolaus Copernicus, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and Frederic Chopin. Take in the history of this important historic site, before taking the short trip back to Krakow.

Very good tour. Guide was knowledgeable and did a great job of informing us of the itinerary the e tire time. We paid for the 4 hour tour so I know it was quick. I do wish they would have communicated opportunities to purchase souvenirs. I assumed there would be time at the end but we left pretty quickly. Other than that, fantastic tour!

Picked up promptly from the hotel, lovely comfortable minibus and a very friendly driver. They said to wear comfortable shoes as there is a lot of walking down stairs and not we’re they right. But trust me, it was worth EVERY STEP. It’s such an impressive work of industrial art, and awe inspiring. Very informed tour guide and you are given all the time you need to take in the amazing sights. Definitely worth the money.

The tour felt absolutely magical to me! The guide, Ola, was very enthusiastic and helpful. I loved how intimate this tour was: the tourist route is very well organized, so in each chamber, we were completely alone with the guide, which adds to the charm and the sense of awe about the place. Insider tip: if you have headphones of your own, don't hesitate to use them and refuse the discardable ones offered for the tour. Which it's practical for people who don't have them, I found that they were not especially good and had a much better sound from my own.
