Full description
Take a guided tour of the historical museum located in the former enamel factory of Oscar Schindler, as made famous in Steven Spielberg’s “Schindler’s List.” Experience the museum’s moving permanent collection. Learn about everyday life in Krakow during the Nazi occupation from 1939 to 1945. The exhibition is a story about both the Poles and Jews, as well as the Nazi occupiers who violently disrupted Krakow’s centuries-long history of Polish-Jewish relations. Enter Schindler’s office, which has been preserved within the factory's administrative building. See the “Survivor’s Ark” made of thousands of enamel pots, similar to those produced in the factory. Witness documentary photographs, eyewitness accounts, film documentaries, and multimedia presentations, which bring the city’s history to life. Wander through a theatrical recreation of Krakow’s historical city space. Board a tram and watch a documentary portraying the everyday life of the city. Visit a typical Jewish apartment. See artifacts from the Plazow camp. Walk through the “Hall of Choices,” a sculptural installation symbolizing the ethical dilemmas that people encountered during the war.

The guide met us outside on time and was very friendly. She was exceptionally knowledgable and clearly had family ties related to the Kraków situation in WW2. The only thing that stopped this being 5 star was that set times we had wanted to read some of the displays and literature and the guide tended to carry on narrating. I suppose we could have walked away a little but this felt rude so we stayed and listened. The tour is not just about Schindler’s role in protecting the Jews who worked for him but more about Kraków through WW2. We did enjoy it though. Book beforehand as places are very limited and Monday’s are reduced opening hours and close at roughly midday.

There were only two others in the group, which was brilliant. The guide was very knowledgeable and answered questions. As my 'speed' of walking is limited, she was very patient with me!! She didn't have to rush us around as the museum wasn't especially busy. Great museum and brilliant guide. Thank you. I only wish I could remember her name!
