Full description
The Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the most treasured monuments in Polish cultural history. Over a million tourists from around the world visit the salt mine yearly to see its exquisite carvings and reliefs. This unique place has been listed on the UNESCO Cultural and Natural World Heritage list since 1978, placing it even higher on tourist's 'to do list.' The miners left in Wieliczka dozens of sculptures and bas-reliefs cut out of the salt, keeping their work alive for many further years.  There are around 800 steps leading down into the mine. After taking around 350 of them you will find yourself at the first floor underground. After the tour, the lift will take you up towards the exit.

I had booked the tour with hotel pickup and the day before the guy contacted us giving us the pick up time: pick up on time. Perfect organization: we arrived at the site, the guy handed us the tour tickets and accompanied us to the area from which the visit started (about 2h) in Italian. The mine is nice, YOU WALK A LOT but our guide - not speaking Italian very well - seemed to want to finish everything soon. At the end of the tour, the van was present at the point where it left us in the morning.

Very nice experience. They postponed our appointment the same day but we were promptly notified. Our Italian guide too nice and nice. At the end of the tour there is the possibility of doing another small tour without a guide but we could not because the driver was waiting for us outside who had the set times to take us home.

Highly recommended, you walk a bit but it's worth it, it's quite cold so it would be better to bring a jacket. The package does not include the visit to the museum which takes place at the end of the tour of the mine and is free, you must agree with the agency that manages the booking.
