Our 2-hour tour will take us through the Old Town of Kaunas, Lithuania’s second-largest city and former capital. See why this picturesque city has been called an open-air museum of historic architecture. The Old Town of Kaunas was built mostly between the 14th and 16th centuries, and as a result there are many impressive architectural monuments, including gothic and baroque churches. The town center is also home to more modern and unique buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. On the tour through the Old Town you will see the ruins of Kaunas Castle, the city’s oldest building which today hosts an art gallery. Then, visit the Kaunas Cathedral, the largest gothic church in Lithuania. From there, we will head to the historic Town Hall of Kaunas, affectionately known by locals as “the White Swan”, followed by much more of the city’s main highlights and history. Enjoy a two-hour walk in a beautiful setting, all with a local guide to explain the great stories of Kaunas and answer any of your questions.

The medieval defender of Lithuania – Kaunas Castle now remains the heart of the city. The city was created near it. The Franciscan brothers, Bernardines and Jesuits have all worked there and have left the most beautiful religious buildings in the city (St. George, Vytautas and the Jesuit Church). From here, the only city in Lithuania, the Hanseatic merchants built trading routes. Footprints of Jewish culture left in the city as well as other famous people who lived in Kaunas will also be mentioned.
