Full description
Visit a traditional neighborhood, which isn’t typically visited by tourists, giving you the opportunity to remove the veil of a culture that most people have only observed from the outside. The tour is guided by a member of the local ultra-Orthodox community, who will take you for a walk around the streets of a nearby ultra-Orthodox neighborhood. Along the way, your guide will point out many significant religious symbols, customs and sites. You will also be shown places such as a bookstore, music store, restaurant, typical bakery, clothes shop, synagogue, Yeshiva, and more to get an insight into the communities daily lives. Note that some of these places won’t be possible to enter as it’s forbidden by the local community, so you’ll get a glimpse from the outside with explanations from your guide. During the tour you are encouraged to have a discussion and ask your guide questions. You will discuss various issues related to this community’s life; such as marriage, the role of women in their society, media, charity, Kosher food and phones, Sabbath and holidays, as well as the current place this sector plays in modern Israeli society, demonstrating the very interesting narrative of the ultra-Orthodox Jewish people in Jerusalem.

This peek behind the curtain of Orthodox Judaism provides wonderful insight into this normally private culture. It was quite interesting to learn how this community is adapting to a changing world from someone who was previously a part of this community. Our guide expertly juggled respect for the community with transparency while answering the many questions from the group. A highlight of my trip.

I am very glad to have had the chance to participate in one of these tours. Our guide Léa was extremely knowledgeable and open to answering any questions we might have had. If this is a topic/reality you are at all interested in, I highly recommend that you go and get as much out of it as possible!

I loved it, and I went back alone and did all the script again. With the guide I couldn't take pictures with the ultra-orthodox (even though it was a tourist tour in 2022 that we only recorded everything) and going alone I asked them if I could take a picture with them and everyone was kind and didn't care.
