Full description

Begin your unique adventure at the Columbia Icefield Discovery Center. Meet your guide, who will take you to the Athabasca Glacier. At the scheduled time, board your Ice Explorer, a huge vehicle specifically designed for glacial travel, and set off on an exciting ride. During your ride, hear stories and facts about the Columbia Icefield and the glaciers around you. Once on the Glacier, hop off the vehicle to walk on the extremely thick, 25,000-year-old ice and drink cold, pure water from the glacier itself. This is an experience you will never forget.

Then, take a short ride to the Columbia Icefield Skywalk. Heighten your senses by walking on a platform where only glass separates you from a 918-foot (279-meter) drop. Marvel at the spectacular views of the mountains, glaciers, and the Sunwapta River with its waterfalls.

I think the best part of the experience is the cat trak that takes you up onto the glacier. The glacier itself is interesting but sad that it is receding at such a fast pace. It makes you wonder that not only climate change is happening but just how much are we affecting the glacier by being on it.

Unique experience with well equipped team. A chance to see in person a geologic wonder. Be sure to book ahead as buying at trips at your time of choosing May not be available. Would be very beneficial if they offered on line check in and tickets rather than just providing a voucher that forces you to stand in line with those trying to buy day of tix. Be prepared for a very chaotic ticketing process once you arrive.

We went when it was snowing but our expectations weren’t spoiled at all! The staff were so helpful, systematic and while the mountains were covered with snow, the drive to glacier was so exciting. Special mention to our aweSAM tour guide, who drove us to the Glacier making our tour entertaining, thrilling and memorable.
