Jakarta: Bogor Cultural Tour with Botanical Gardens Visit

1. Jakarta: Bogor Cultural Tour with Botanical Gardens Visit

The tour starts with pickup from your accommodation in Jakarta, then it’s time to escape the hustle and bustle of the busy city and travel out into the peaceful countryside as you head to the nearby city of Bogor. Admire the stunning scenic views along the drive and see a side to Jakarta you might have missed if you stayed in the city. Your first stop of the day is Bogor's beautiful botanic gardens located at the heart of the city. These world-class gardens cover an area of around 85 acres and were officially opened by the Dutch in 1817. Early researchers used these gardens to develop a variety of crops including tea and tobacco, and the park is still a major center for botanical research in Indonesia. Next, take a visit to one of the very few remaining gongsmiths in Indonesia and watch how the traditional techniques are still in use today. Learn about the way the instruments are melted over fire and beaten by hand, a process which takes weeks to produce just one gong. After the gongsmiths, immerse yourself in the traditional Kampung way of life at a local handmade puppet souvenir shop. Follow the winding streets of Kampung to find the store and admire the incredible array of wooden puppets on display from the factory.

Learn about the fascinating culture of each Indonesian island as you walk through Aceh, Kalimanta, Sulawesi, Java, Papua and more with your experienced guide. Then enjoy a cable car ride across the park to marvel at the sights from above. Finally, the tour concludes at the onsite Museum of Indonesia, a three-story building in traditional Balinese architecture. The museum houses a vast collection on Indonesian contemporary arts and crafts, traditional costumes from the various regions, puppets, musical instruments, and masks.

I’m so glad we had a guide. The park would have been overwhelming without him, and we wouldn’t have seen nearly as much. Our guide was flexible with our tour, offering options for activities because of long queues at the sky bucket ride. Informative and interesting tour.

The tour was good, only I was 1 hour earlier in my hotel.

The tour lasted an hour shorter than planned. The guide went quite quickly to be ready earlier I think.

Pleasant tour, explained a lot, timely collection!
