Private Pamukkale (Hierapolis) Tour: Full-Day from Izmir

10. Private Pamukkale (Hierapolis) Tour: Full-Day from Izmir

Join us on our full-day tour to Pamukkale, which in English means “cotton castle”. You’ll understand why it’s called this when you see the site! This unique site should be on everyone’s “must see” list when visiting Turkey. The thermal spa of Hierapolis dates from dynasty of the Attalids, the kings of Pergamon, and is registered as a cultural and natural heritage site by UNESCO. Your guide will show you the ruins of the baths, temples and other Greek monuments at the site. You’ll see the ruins of the ancient Greco-Roman city of Hierapolis and have time to relax in the warm spring waters. Calcite-laden waters cascade from springs in a cliff towering nearly 200 meters over the plain, creating a surreal landscape of mineral forests, petrified waterfalls and a series of terraced basins. The terraces were formed by the warm cascading waters that contain calcium bicarbonate. As the water loses its carbon dioxide it leaves limestone deposits. During your visit to the open-air museum of Hierapolis you’ll see the massive ancient graveyard that contains over 1200 sarcophagi, many of which are the size of a small house. Other ruins that you’ll visit on this tour include the Great Theatre, the tomb of St. Philip, the Roman Baths and the Temple of Apollo.

What people are saying about Izmir Province

The site, the tour, and the guides are excellent! We loved hiking around the old city, feeling like Indiana Jones and looking for historical treasure. The drive from Izmir is long (4 hrs), but the knowledge the guides have to share about the area help pass the time. We took 15 min rest stops each way, and the rest stops had wonderful foods and drink. Additionally, as a small group, we enjoyed conversation with the other couple. We took a quick side trip into the garment district on our way out and the shopping was as much fun as the hiking! It’s definitely a long way to go in a van, but the site and area around it is so special, you’d hate to miss it. Supposedly, in another year, the freeway will be finished and that will cut the drive down to 3 hrs each way.

We had a great time in Turkey. Mr. Fevzi (owner, Curio travels) was very proactive, supportive and friendly to us. Arrangement were made to perfection. Our tour guides (Mr. Serkan for Istanbul and Mr. Tezcan for rest of the tour) were super cool. They treated us as their family members. We were a bit scared for this long trip because we have 2 small kids but the way it was planned, kids enjoyed the trip a lot. It was very comfortable and non tiring trip. Guides were super supportive and understanding, kids enjoyed a lot with the guide uncles :) Thanks again for the great memories that we collected during this trip, it couldn’t have happened without these wonderful gentlemen. -Farhat

We were fetched on time at our hotel. Mehareem met us and explained the process. We fetched some people along the way from Kusadasi and more when we got to Pamukkale. The ride was very pleasant. Mehareem gave us insights into the area, the Turkish culture as we went by each little town. Heiropolis was incredible. The fact and history was absolutely mesmerizing. Pamukkale was breathtaking,an absolute must do in one's lifetime. Highlight for me was we got to swim in Cleopatra's pools in the middle of winter.

Pamukkale is definitely one of the must visit places in Turkey & I am glad I booked this tour with GYG. Mehmet our guide was so amazing, he shared a lot of fascinating facts. Hierapolis is definitely a place you want to visit with a guide to understand the rich history of the place. Once you reach Pamukkale, you get to enjoy the naturally occurring thermal springs, you can also swim in the Cleopatra's pool. Everything was up-to-mark, Crowded House Tours was a great provider.

The trip was awesome, although the flight was delay by 3 hr but our tour guide Mr Murat made it happen. We managed to catch all the beautiful sights at stipulated Timing. Highly recommended for this!
