Full description
This full-day tour from Izmir, takes you to Ephesus in Selçuk to explore Turkey’s best preserved ruins from the ancient Greek, Roman, and Byzantine civilizations. Visit the most important ruins in Ephesus, including the Temple of Artemis, which was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World before it was destroyed in 401 AD. You will also see the Library of Celsus, built to hold 12,000 scrolls and at its time one of the largest libraries in the world. The nearby Great Theater, which was the largest outdoor theater in the world, was designed to hold 24,000 people – even its ruins are huge. After discovering the impressive monuments, you will visit the Archaeological Museum of Ephesus. The museum houses many important statues and relics including a preserved segment of the original Temple of Artemis. After enjoying a lunch of traditional Turkish cuisine, you will travel to the House of the Virgin Mary on Bulbul Mountain, where archeologists and historians believe the mother of Jesus lived at the end of her life.

My experience with this tour was pretty good. The driver showed up at a location near my Airbnb right on time. I enjoyed the day being shown around Ephesus and other places nearby. NeonTours doesn't actually host the tour, the tour seems to be delegated to another tour company in Selçuk. The description of the listing is incomplete/inaccurate, as other stops were also included in the tour and we didn't visit the Archaeological Museum of Ephesus. The tour included stops at a leather factory and a sweet shop, both times during which guests are given sales pitches. Unfortunately, we couldn't see the Library of Celsus as a commercial was being shot there the day we visited.

We were picked up promptly at our hotel in Izmir and comfortably driven to a rendezvous point to collect the other 9 participants. Josh was an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable but also knew when to give the group time to wander about. Very enjoyable. Would recommend, especially if limited time is an issue.

Absolutely Fantastic

With a significant other we made this booking and it proved to be very impressive. Ismail was absolutely fantastic and I will be happy to personally say thank you (missed the chanced to give it an unsolicited tip). Well, Izmir, perhaps not again but will recommend this to any friend.
