Barahona: Lake Enriquillo Boat Tour and Swimming

1. Barahona: Lake Enriquillo Boat Tour and Swimming

After pickup from your hotel, enjoy a picturesque drive to the Lago Enriquillo area, one of the most beautiful regions in the country. The hot and dry climate here offers perfect conditions for crocodiles as well as rare rhinoceros iguanas. If you are lucky you will encounter these impressive animals. The lake is the lowest point in the country and lies about 40 meters below sea level. Take a boat trip on the lake to admire the scenery up close. From your guide, hear about former Taino colonies that used to live in the desert-like surroundings of the salty lake. Take the opportunity to take a dip in the natural swimming pools of Neyba. You will be dropped off back at your hotel in the late afternoon.

From Barahona: Larimar Mine Tour

2. From Barahona: Larimar Mine Tour

After pickup from your hotel in the Barahona area, drive along the spectacular coastal road to Bahoruco. Well hidden in the mountains, you will visit the only existing Larimar Mine in the world, the blue stone exclusive to the Dominican Republic. Discovered in 1974, this stone is scratch resistant and very easy to polish, and is used to make uniquely beautiful jewelry. Arriving at the mine, you'll have a tour around the area with the opportunity to talk to the miners before heading back to your accommodation in Barahona.

The tour was excellent and I enjoyed it a lot. I liked especially the service of Ecotour. I received a confirmation of my booking via WhatsApp and I was picked up on time at my hotel. The guide was very friendly and his english was perfect. The vehicle looked to be in a good shape as well. The only thing which was incorrect in the description of the tour is that there was a picnic lunch included in the price. It is not. Despite of that it was possible to order a lunch at one stop, but I didn't take advantage of it as I was not very hungry. I can definitely recommend this tour to anyone who is interested to see something else than just beaches of Dominican republic.
