Atlas Mountains and Agafay Desert Jeep Safari

1. Atlas Mountains and Agafay Desert Jeep Safari

Discover and explore deep Berber country in the High Atlas Mountains, and enjoy the landscapes of desert, valleys, villages, and open plains on a full-day trip from Marrakech.  The drive takes you first to the Agafay Desert, just south of Marrakech, where you’ll experience some dune bashing before continuing on to the Lalla Takerkoust region, making your first stop on the hills overlooking the lake. From here you’ll begin a 4x4 adventure on dirt tracks rarely frequented by tourists and climb up to the Kik Plateau, where you’ll drive from village to village meeting locals, visiting Berber homes, and sampling their traditional mint tea and homemade bread.  When you arrive at Imlil Village, located in the heart of Toubkal National Park, you’ll have the option of hiking for an hour to Armed village or continue to the village by 4x4. The 1-hour hike with a local guide is of moderate difficulty. In the village you’ll be served a Berber lamb tagine for lunch at a local home. You’ll also enjoy Moroccan salads and homemade bread during the meal.  After lunch and a short relaxation break, you’ll head down a gentle hill to Imlil village, where you’ll meet your driver for the 1-hour trip back to Marrakech via the Haouz plains.

Atlas and Agafay Day Tour with Sunset Camel Ride

2. Atlas and Agafay Day Tour with Sunset Camel Ride

Start your day with pickup in Marrakesh at 9:00 AM. Your first stop is the Atlas Mountains. Visit a traditional Berber market on the way and an Argan oil co-op. From Marakkesh, you’ll arrive at Imlil. From there, you'll head to the highest and largest village in Imlil Valley, Armed. Either choose to walk to Armed, or you go by camel. See the waterfalls, as well as the hamlets of Ait Mizan, Targa, and Imoula. To add some more glamor to your journey, your tour guide will stop at Tamatert, so that you can enjoy the amazing view of ancient irrigation fields that are surrounded by cherry and walnut trees. From Tamatert, pass through the Ait Souka village on the way to the next stop at Kik Plateau. At Ait Souka, you’ll meet a berber family, and you’ll be welcomed with a nice guest meal in their home.  Your journey will also take you from the Kik Plateau to the edge of Lalla Takerkoust Lake. Take a tea break and see the gigantic dam that supplies Marrakesh with all its energy. Quad biking or jet skiing can also be locally arranged if you enjoy adrenaline-pumping activities. The last stop before you return to Marakkesh is the Agafay Desert. Through the stone desert, oasis, barren light brown plateaus, high hills, and Bedouin villages, you'll enjoy the beautiful sunset as your journey wraps up.

We loved our trip to the mountains and the desert! The day trip is very complete and allows to see plenty of different places from the Atlas Mountains to the Agafay desert and stopping for a camel ride. Our guide Mohammed was very nice and let us plenty of time to stop for pictures and gave us many information about the area. We particularly enjoyed learning how to make the famous Morrocan tea!

This is a toir you should not miss once staying in Morroco. Whole experience was comfortable, really helpfull driver picked us up in our riad in time, car was safe and comfortable. Food in berber village was delicious and al the landscapes you can see on this tour and passing by while driving are so beautifull. For sure you would enjoy it.

An immersion in Moroccan nature and culture! Sharing the experience of a meal freshly prepared for us by a Berber family, riding a dromedary in the stony desert with a view of the mountains and sharing a mint tea with the drivers, having lunch at a tajine with a breathtaking view in Imlil made this day the best of the trip
