From Sarajevo: Mostar and Cities of Herzegovina Day Tour

1. From Sarajevo: Mostar and Cities of Herzegovina Day Tour

The starting point is usually in front of Info Bosnia Tourist Information Center located on main pedestrian street Ferhadija, just next to "Sarajevo Meeting of Cultures", but can be arranged from elsewhere, if requested. The first stop of the day is a short visit to Konjic, a unique, prehistorically inhabited place from which Herzegovina originates. It is famous for its 17th century 6-arch Old Bridge and a perfect introduction to the emerald-green Neretva river. Continue towards the beautiful medieval and Ottoman stone-constructed fortified village Počitelj. On your arrival, take an easy hike towards the Kula, a silo-shaped fort overlooking the village from the top of the hill. It was used to house watchmen and military as a guard against possible intrusions from the Neretva valley. After a short hike, continue your way to Blagaj. This city is situated at the source of the Buna river, Europe’s most powerful, clean and drinkable river spring. After Pocitelj enjoy lunch at the banks of river Buna just a few kilometers away from Blagaj. Under the shade of trees, listening to the sound of the river, enjoy a local trout with the traditional desert "smokvara". After a nice meal, it is time to visit the best part of your journey, the city of Mostar. Mostar has long been known for its old Turkish houses and Old Bridge. The historic part of Mostar is a result of interaction between the natural phenomena and human creativity throughout a long historical period. The architecture here presents a symbol of tolerance: a shared life of Muslims, Christians, and Jews. Focus at Mostar’s Old Bridge, Old Bazaar, and Old Town, and hear stories of Mostar’s uniqueness and cosmopolitan heritage. After Mostar it is time to say goodbye to Herzegovina. Head back to your accommodation in Sarajevo in just over 2 hours.

Discover the cobbled streets of Počiteli, and the breathtaking Kravica Waterfall. Cross the Old Bridge between the two sides of Mostar. Get picked up from your accommodation in Dubrovnik and enjoy scenic sea views as you drive in style along the Adriatic coast. Cross the border into Bosnia and Herzegovina after 1.5-hours, reaching the city of Počitelj. Explore Počiteli, a beautifully well-preserved city with Mediterranean-inspired architecture and a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Take a stroll along the picturesque cobbled streets and admire the giant stone watchtowers.  Continue on to the river Trebižat, to discover the incredible Kravica Waterfall. Take the chance to capture stunning photos of the falls, before spending an hour driving to the city of Mostar.  Arrive in Mostar, a city connecting Muslims and Christians by the fairytale-like Old Bridge. Listen to your tour guide describe the political and historical events behind the construction of the bridge. Enjoy spending free time in Mostar. Choose to try Turkish style black coffee beside the river Neretva, or indulge in a lunch filled with traditional Bosnian and Herzegovinian specialties, like minced meat in pita bread with cream and onion. Finish your day-trip driving back to Dubrovnik. Take different roads on the way back, experiencing more of the Bosnian and Herzegovinian landscape.

What people are saying about Herzegovina

This trip is not be missed when you are in Bosnia and Hercegovina. When I booked this tour, I got the confirmation immediately and got very helpful and friendly advice with all the information about the tour, thanks to Asim! Our guide Mirza picked us up from the hotel and our adventure has started on time. We visited all these beautiful places, had great lunch in Mostar and heard all these stories which was very educational. Mirza is a great guide, very friendly and funny and he made sure that we see these places, climbing on the top with us in Pocitejl and waiting patiently for us while we were taking so many pictures:-) The tour is amazing and we would like to thank Mirza for this great day, without him the tour wouldn’t be the same.

This trip was really great if you have the right people guide with you such as Emina Koso. You are about to explore everything without missing the viewing of nature the history behind the place from its original people . This is a must tourist point to visit in Bosnia. I highly recommend it.

Emina Koso was a great guide with a lot of knowledge about local history and also knew some places that are not so well known. She was very relaxed and focused very much on the wishes of the guests. All in all a great experience that I would love to do again with such a friendly guide.

Toured with Emina who was an excellent guide; knowledgeable, great company and a pleasure to spend the day with. The itinerary was excellent, what a beautiful country.

Engaging guide! Important and memorable sights. Worth the full day!
