Hjalteyri: Whale-Watching Boat Trip

1. Hjalteyri: Whale-Watching Boat Trip

It's not surprising that many northerners believe that Hjalteyri is one of the best-kept secrets of North Iceland. Eyjafjörður is a favorable habitat for marine life, so favorable in fact that whales were spotted on all of these tours in 2016. On this whale-watching tour, you'll graciously glide through the calm seas of Eyjafjörður under the guidance and expertise of a qualified crew. This tour is approximately two-and-a-half hours long. This tour gives you the unique and exceptional opportunity to get in touch with the magnificent wildlife found in the north of Iceland, most notably the majestic whales and seabirds.

Akureyri: Siglufjörður Four Tunnel Private Day Tour

2. Akureyri: Siglufjörður Four Tunnel Private Day Tour

This tour takes us through breathtaking landscapes and beautiful scenery. To arrive in Siglufjörður, we will have to pass through 3 tunnels, but our tour will take us a bit further and through the 4th tunnel to an enjoyable viewing point. We will be making short stops in the Village of Hjalteyri, a unique town from the herring era. As well as having a look at Hauganes and Árskógssandur. We'll pass through Dalvík and Ólafsfjörður, two nice fishing towns. There will be time to explore Siglufjörður and the Herring Era Musem (subject to them being open).

It is a decidedly adventurous trip, the waves when the fjord opens are beautiful high and the adrenaline rush is great, but it's worth it: we spotted two whales, one of which is very close, and both dived, pulling out the queue, a unique experience! A padded suit is provided that keeps super warm and a heavy waxed one to put on, I suggest you bring gloves, perhaps in waterproof technical fabric. On the way back they also offered us hot chocolate and a cake. Unique experience

Although it was quite cold that day (end of July), the North Sailing team provided us with warm overalls and long raincoats. We could see porpoises. The crew was very nice and considerate. We were told a lot about whales.

A great tour that starts away from mass tourism in the very small town of Hjalteyri. The crew put a lot of effort and we were able to see several whales. A lovely experience, highly recommended.

We recommend it. We enjoyed it. Friendly and helpful staff who, on the way back, offered us a sweet and a hot chocolate which we very much appreciated, considering the inclement weather.

Our guide was wonderful and the captain made sure we were close enough to the whales.
