Mallorca: Visit the Caves of Hams

1. Mallorca: Visit the Caves of Hams

Situated in Porto Cristo, the caves are renowned throughout the world for their peculiar fish-hook shaped formations. There are three main caves, the round cave is a vast open area which includes a spectacular botanical garden and is full of life, with many species of free-flying birds that are native to the island of Majorca. It has a special micro-climate as the natural temperature is below that of the exterior meaning it has its own particular vegetation. Millions of years ago, this underground cave was closed in. In blue cave, with its spectacular new blue lighting using cutting edge led technology, you can enjoy the educational documentary, Discovering the past. You will learn about the history of Majorca, its first inhabitants, the formation of the Hams caves and their discovery. You can admire Samson’s pillars, the plains of Fra Mauro and the Pit of hell, where, in a natural auditorium, they will present Genesis, the history of life, a frenzied time lapse from the Big Bang to the present day, projected onto the very rock-face of the cave. The main cave is made up of 12 galleries. On the underground lake called the Sea of Venice, a musical show is presented. The caves are one of Majorca’s main tourist attractions.

The Caves of Drach Full or Half-Day

2. The Caves of Drach Full or Half-Day

On your trip to Mallorca, don't miss this visit to the Caves of Drach, located in the town of Manacor. After being picked up, head straight to the Caves. These caves are an absolute wonder, formed millions of years ago by the water pressure of the Mediterranean Sea. The Caves of Drach comprise 4 separate and gigantic caves full of impressive stalagmites and stalactites. The most interesting attraction of these caves is their 177-meter-long underwater lake, known as Lake Martel. While inside the caves, admire a light show synchronized with the melodies of a small orchestra. Finish your visit with a stop at an exhibition on Manacor's pearl farming industry. Learn all about the manufacturing process of these classic gems. Or, if you choose the full-day option, continue with a visit to the Caves del Hams, famous for its fish-hook-shaped stalactites and stalagmites—the cause of their unique shape is still unknown. Then, finish off your full-day tour with a visit to the beautiful Porto Cristo, on the eastern coast of the island.

We did the half day visit to the Caves of Drach and would really recommend visiting them it was a wonderful experience ( wait until the end with the orchestra’) My only downside was we had to wait over 30 minutes for the coach to pick us up in the morning and we were stuck at the docks with nowhere to get a drink etc

Very enjoyable and more interactive than most cave tours. Was pleasantly surprised by the short film with some background info/ history of the caves, genesis display, and ending with a musical experience. The lighting is beautiful, and displays it's natural beauty wonderfully.

Absolutely worth going for this. The tour is well organised and very informative. Available in English as well. Get online ticket here before because in person ticket at gate is expensive.

Great seeing the island from another perspective. The tour ride to the caves gives you a more realistic view of the live in Mallorca.

very friendly personal, audio in many languagues, amazing atmosphere
