One of the most exciting ways to experience the Blue River, or Rio Azul, is with a rubber inner tube. Wind your way around bends and through white water adrenalin-pumping chutes before reaching the calmer waters of the river. This full-day adventure is fun for any adult looking for excitement. Rocks tower out of the water and you’ll bump into them, but kept safe by your inflated rubber tube. You’ll be sent spinning forward or backward and need to hold on tight so you don’t fall out of the tube! The lush rainforest forms a scenic background, as you pass through canyons and thick jungle. In fact, the sound of the water rushing past is quiet compared to the resident howler monkeys, insects, and birds. Later you’ll spend some time at the Blue River Resort and Hot Springs, enjoying lunch, its 4 natural mineral “green” hot springs pools, mud baths, botanical gardens, butterfly farm, and fresh water pool with bullet waterslide. Itinerary 07:00: Pick-up at hotels in the Tamarindo, Pinilla, or Conchal areas. Pick-up at hotels in the Coco Beach area is at around 08:20. 10:00: Arrive at the Blue River Resort an Hot Springs for a welcome cocktail at the Spa. Change clothing to prepare for your first adventure. 10:30: Take a short drive to the drop off point near Rio Azul. Hike along a path to reach the Blue River, where your adventure begins. 12:30: Return to the Blue River Resort to enjoy a delightful à la carte lunch chosen from a special menu just for you! 13:30: After lunch you’ll visit the resort’s botanical gardens that feature more than 700 plant varieties, including heliconias, fruit-bearing trees, timber-yielding trees, and orchids. See the hummingbird garden, tropical fish lake, and the spectacular butterfly garden that sees at least 700 butterflies each day. 14:15: Take time to relax in the natural minerals hot springs pools. 16:00: Begin the return trip to your accommodation, arriving at around 18:30.
