Grand Baie: Guided Walking Food Tour

2. Grand Baie: Guided Walking Food Tour

Uncover and experience the real Grand Baie; a charming and authentic village full of history and delicious Mauritian food and drinks. Whilst here you will discover that few locals even know about the history of this coastal town. Grand Baie was once a wild coast where escaped slaves would hide and live off the land and sea. It later became a port of commerce for French landowners, and eventually the landing site for the English invasion. Explore the back streets of Grand Baie and experience the local life. You can discover some of the locals' favorite restaurants and food spots, and at each food spot taste a variety of local dishes. You can try the typical Mauritian rougaille, as well as tasty Creole curries and a pizza with a Mauritian twist. Towards the end of the tour you will even be treated to a fruity surprise for dessert. As you taste the delicious dishes and sip on refreshing local drinks, your guides will chat with you as you get to know one another.

Our guide Kevin designed the day according to our needs. We wanted to see a Tamil temple, he took us to the temple, We wanted to see the coast, he incorporated the north coast into the tour. Was a lot of fun. The only drawback, which was also an advantage... we did the tour on Sundays and all the shops were closed. However, the central market was open and we were able to take the mood there with us. The advantage on Sunday was that we had hardly any traffic (where you would otherwise be stuck in traffic for at least an hour) and we could watch the locals partying on the beach. Highly recommended tour

Having been to Grand Bay three times before, we were looking for some inspiration for new places to eat so decided to do a food tour; we weren’t disappointed. Adrian is a friendly a knowledgable guide with an obvious passion for food. We enjoyed his company and his food suggestions and went back to two of them later in the week. Thoroughly recommended
