Grand Baie: Guided Walking Food Tour

1. Grand Baie: Guided Walking Food Tour

Uncover and experience the real Grand Baie; a charming and authentic village full of history and delicious Mauritian food and drinks. Whilst here you will discover that few locals even know about the history of this coastal town. Grand Baie was once a wild coast where escaped slaves would hide and live off the land and sea. It later became a port of commerce for French landowners, and eventually the landing site for the English invasion. Explore the back streets of Grand Baie and experience the local life. You can discover some of the locals' favorite restaurants and food spots, and at each food spot taste a variety of local dishes. You can try the typical Mauritian rougaille, as well as tasty Creole curries and a pizza with a Mauritian twist. Towards the end of the tour you will even be treated to a fruity surprise for dessert. As you taste the delicious dishes and sip on refreshing local drinks, your guides will chat with you as you get to know one another.

Grand Baie: 4-Hour Sunset and Dinner Cruise

2. Grand Baie: 4-Hour Sunset and Dinner Cruise

Sail off at a leisurely pace into Grand Baie’s spectacular sunset aboard a luxurious catamaran while you sit back and relax with a refreshing cocktail. Meet your cruise captain at 4:45 PM for a pre-departure briefing. At 5:00 PM  set sail and pass Fort Malarctic, Cap Malheureux, and other important historical sites on your way towards Coin de Mire for views of its spectacular sea cliffs.  While cruising, have the chance to see large pods of dolphins, take photographs, eat tasty tropical snacks, or spend your time socializing with your travel companions. Enjoy complimentary beverages served throughout the duration of the cruise and dance to the tasteful music played from a top-of-the-line stereo system. Soon after sunset, at about 7:00 PM, head back to Grand Baie, where the skipper will anchor the catamaran in a quiet cove and begin the dinner preparations while festivities get under way.

Port Louis: Private Guided Sightseeing Tour

This excursion will introduce you to the city of Port Louis, founded in 1735 by Mahe de Labourdonnais, where you will visit the historic Fort Adelaide also known as the Citadel. Built by the English in 1835 and is one of the few fortifications of British origin remaining on the island. From here, you'll enjoy a view stretching over almost the entire city. Your next stop will be a visit to the central market (also known as the bazaar). Here you will be amazed by the variety of products you will find - fruits, vegetables, scent sticks, spices, pashmina, and linen are amongst the most sold products. Your next stop will be at the Caudan Waterfront, a modern precinct facing the harbor. Its 170 boutiques display beautiful collections of local designers and famous brands. Its craft market is an open bazaar, impregnated by exotic scents of spices, souvenirs, and basketry. Then, visit the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, renamed Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, and the highlight of any visit to the north. Admire a magnificent collection of local and exotic plants, a variety of giant water lilies, rare plants from Mascarene, the baobab, giant palms, and the Talipot palm, whose flower only blossoms after 50 years.

What people are saying about Grand Baie

The tour took place in English - language skills required. The driver (Sailen) was very punctual at our hotel. The trip to Port Louis was shortened by very interesting conversations. Arrived, the fort, the market, habor, etc. were visited before heading towards the grapefruit. Super friendly driver who appeared with very good knowledge and friendliness. We would book the trip with Sailen again at any time!! 5 stars - well deserved

Having been to Grand Bay three times before, we were looking for some inspiration for new places to eat so decided to do a food tour; we weren’t disappointed. Adrian is a friendly a knowledgable guide with an obvious passion for food. We enjoyed his company and his food suggestions and went back to two of them later in the week. Thoroughly recommended
