Full description
Travel back to medieval Barcelona, and hear stories of the characters that inhabited the atmospheric Barrio Gotico, and their relationship to the city’s history. Meet your guide at Carrer Montsio n.10. Continue to Plaça Nova near the imposing Cathedral of Santa Eulalia. As you wander down the winding streets leading off the square, your guide will tell an enthralling history of the city, revealing some of the hidden sights in secret corners. Learn about the ancient gates of the Roman city of Barcino, and continue through the Jewish Quarter of El Call. You’ll come across picturesque squares, such as Plaça Sant Jaume, site of the City Hall and Presidential Palace. Marvel at the Palau Reial Major in Plaça del Rei, and window shop along pedestrianized Plaça de l’Àngel, now one of Barcelona’s most expensive areas. See the mariner’s church of Santa María del Mar, and end in front of lively Santa Caterina Market. Then, it’s time to taste some authentic pintxos (snacks) in a traditional tapas bar of the El Born neighborhood.

Our guide Laura was terrific. She lives in the neighborhood and gave us just the right combination of walking, and history. Our family of 6 adults ages 29-62 all thought she was delightful. She suggested a great place for drinks and tapas. It felt like time spent with a friend in Barcelona, rather than a guide.

Our guide Carla was amazing. Dhe studied art history in university so she had a lot of interesting information to give us about the architecture and seemed just as excited as we were about the Roman origins of Gothic Barcelona. She answered all of our questions and was extremely personable. We highly recommend her to anyone who wants a great tour with a nice and knowledgeable person. Great experience.

The tour was really interesting and a great guide but the tapas element was disappointing. Also a small group which was also a bit of a shame as we had been hoping to meet people (though the people we met were lovely and had some great recommendations of things to do!).
