Full description
Explore the stunning lochs and castles of the Western Highlands on this small group tour from Glasgow. You'll see the superb ruins of Kilchurn on Loch Awe, the bustling west coast harbor town of Oban, and the dramatic beauty of Glencoe. Depart Glasgow at 8:30 AM and travel through gorgeous Glen Fruin, driving parallel with Loch Long. You'll then cross the Highland boundary, where the scenery changes quickly and dramatically–the flat plains of the Lowlands give way to shimmering lochs, rugged mountain tops and forest-filled glens. Continue your drive over the Rest and Be Thankful mountain pass before traveling through the Arrochar Alps. You'll then arrive at the picturesque harbor town of Inveraray on the shores of Loch Fyne. From here you will drive along the shore of Scotland’s longest loch, Loch Awe, where you'll stop to take photos of Kilchurn Castle, a magnificent ruin right in the middle of Loch Awe and the former home of the Campbells of Breadalbane. You will then continue to the harbor town of Oban, gateway to the Isles, where you will eat lunch. After lunch you'll travel north along the coast around Appin, passing imposing Castle Stalker, and into Scotland's most famous valley, Glencoe. This is Scotland's largest loch and it takes its name from the mountain Ben Lomond. The last stop of the day will be in Luss, an 18th-century conservation village with old workers' cottages, built for the laborers of the estate.

We had a lovely day with our driver Bobby. He told us interesting facts and information about the places we visited and made sure we spent just enough time at the different stops, making it feel relaxed and enjoyable. Lots of amazing stops. Castles (some of them ruins), beautiful locations in the West Scottish Highland and the beautiful fisher village Oban. Would definitely recommend this day trip, such an amazing experience!

We went on a trip to West Highlands with our guide Jenny from Rabbie's tour, it has been an amazing 1 day journey! Jenny is a professional driver and fantastic guide, telling you the traditions and stories of Scotland. During the day, there were some stops at breathtaking panoramical points for some photos and to enjoy the fresh air, as well as some comfort breaks for toilets and food. I would definitely recommend this tour. Moreover regarding Covid-19 measurements, the van was at half capacity, all passengers had their masks on and hand sanitiser was available for everyone in the van door. The policy of Rabbie's is also "you book, you go", no cancellation due to minimum number of passengers (we had previously booked another tour with another company and this got cancelled a day before! so you can imagine how disappointed me and my partner were, but at the sane time how lucky we felt after finding Rabbie's tour!)

John McDermitt was our guide and he was wonderful. He managed the sites with the changing weather. Rain and wind one moment and then sun 5 minutes later. He had great stories to tell and added his own music play list which was perfect. I’d enjoy another tour with him the next time we visit Scotland. I highly recommend Rabbi’s. We had several friends who used Rabbi’s and referred us to the tour and we were in no way disappointed!
