Once in a while, on holiday you book a day out. Most times, if you’re lucky, they’re mildly memorable. But this 4x4 tour was truly exceptional. There were three reasons for this: 1) Madeira’s mountainous terrain is made for off-roading 2) The itinerary was literally unique, and 3) our guide David was worth the price of admission alone. This was a day out with a surprise around every corner (so many corners!) David knows his stuff and was an endless source of energy and fun. He drove us up ravines, down valleys and through stunning landscapes straight out of Jurassic Park. It was truly exhilarating and yet we felt safe and looked after all the way. Highlights included swimming in a lunar-like swimming pool, visiting a hobbit ‘inhabited’ wood, stepping out onto the sheer drop of the skywalk and, of course, the adrenaline fuelled-thrill of hurtling down Madeira’s mountains with David whooping just as excitedly and childishly as we were. Bravo. Do yourself a favour and don’t miss out!
Both student and senior guide were quite passionate on telling the history and the special aspects regarding the city of Funchal. They were well prepared and they guided the tour in a very friendly spirit. I collected a valuable amount of information and now I am able to use this knowledge to appreciate and understand the city while walking around by myself. I really enjoyed the tour!
Most amazing experience ever. Great host named Gill who was very informative and very helpful knew so many things about the island such interesting facts. The 4x4 ride was fantastic never experienced anything like it before. Great time in the local bakery and resturant. We swam in the most beautiful places and saw so much on the tour definitely recommend it :)
Easy to find meeting point and very knowledgeable guide! It covered not only the history but also tips on local food and restaurants in the old town area of Funchal. It covers more than 6km of walking in total so wear comfortable shoes!
Our guide was very pleasant and informative. We were even supplied with an umbrella as the weather was inclement but the rain didnt detract from our enjoyment.
